John 4:35-38
John 4:35-38
English Standard Version Chapter 4
35 Do you not say, ‘There are yet four months, then comes the harvest’? Look, I tell you, lift up your eyes, and see that the fields are white for harvest. 36 Already the one who reaps is receiving wages and gathering fruit for eternal life, so that sower and reaper may rejoice together. 37 For here the saying holds true, ‘One sows and another reaps.’ 38 I sent you to reap that for which you did not labor. Others have labored, and you have entered into their labor.”
- What is Jesus saying here?
- What is His message to His disciples, and to us?
- He mentions something about “Harvest” – and “Reaping” – and “Sowing.”
- And Labor.
- What’s that about?
* Certainly, the 1st Century ANE culture was more Agrarian;
- Centered around Agriculture
* Than we are in our 21st Century American suburbs.
- But Jesus knows that EVERYONE, EVERYWHERE, Throughout All TIME,
- Can understand the Analogy of Sowing and Reaping.
* Here, Jesus is saying that “It’s ALWAYS Harvest Time.”
- And of course, He’s talking about a SPIRITUAL Harvest.
- There are ALWAYS “Ripe Hearts” in the Mission Field to Reap.
- And we REAP them by PROCLAIMING the Message of Jesus to those hearts.
