Where is the weirdest place you have ever found money?

Hands up if you have ever found money outside on the ground before

Hands up if you have found money under the couch before?

Or have any of you been lucky enough to find money at the beach before?

Yeah. It’s hard to find things that are lost on the beach.

Well I need tell you about the weirdest place I ever found money.

Who here likes snorkelling? Well, I love going snorkelling.

Once I was out snorkelling with my friends up the coast.

I was looking at all the colourful coral and swimming with all the friendly fish, it was great!

Then all of a sudden, something bright and pink caught my eye.

But it wasn’t a fish…

It was $5 floating out at sea!

I quickly swam over and put it straight in my pocket.

What a strange place to find money! Wow. I know, how good is that?!

Now why is this weird?

It’s because money isn’t usually found floating in the sea isn’t it?

We usually find money at the bank or in bag and our pockets, not in the ocean.

Today we are going to look at a story in the bible about someone who also found money in a really weird place.

And this story starts with Jesus and his friends arriving in town.

Some money collectors came and asked Jesus friend Peter if has paid them their money yet.

Peter goes to ask Jesus but before he can even ask, Jesus interrupts him and explains that they don’t owe these people any money.

But because Jesus is kind he stills gives them the money.

But does he reach into his pocket and pull out a coin?

No!

What did he do instead?

He asked his friend Peter to go down to the lake and go fishing.

Jesus tell Peter that he will catch and fish and find the money in it’s mouth!

How weird is that?! You can’t be serious Jesus.

Who find money in a fishes mouth? I certainly haven’t.

But Peter when down and sure enough, he cast out a line.

And caught a fish with money in it’s mouth, just like Jesus said.

Why did you do this Jesus?

He could have asked some of his friends for the money but he didn’t.

Why did he want to get the money from the fish?

How did he know there would be money in the fish’s mouth?

He did it to show them that he knows everything and he is in control of everything!

He knew there would be a fish there and he made sure it would have a coin in it’s mouth.

Wow. Jesus is pretty cool. I wish I could do that, but I can’t.

Because only God can control the world. Only God knows everything.

But wait a minute.

If God knows everything and Jesus knows everything, then that means that Jesus is God!

Jesus was showing everything that he is God.

And because we have read this story today we know that Jesus is God too.

Jesus is in control of everything and he knows everything.

He knows all of us, he knows each and every one of you.

Jesus is kind. Jesus is cool!

And he wants to be friends with you.

I am friend with Jesus and I love it. He is my best friend.

He knows me and he cares for me.

It’s awesome being friends with Jesus because he is someone we can trust.

He wants us to trust in him.

He knows what we need and will never let us down.

And the great thing about Jesus is that anyone can become his friend.

If he is in control of the small things like coins and fish he is in control of the big things like you and me.
