Mighty God - Love

Luke 1:46–55 NRSV
And Mary said, “My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has looked with favor on the lowliness of his servant. Surely, from now on all generations will call me blessed; for the Mighty One has done great things for me, and holy is his name. His mercy is for those who fear him from generation to generation. He has shown strength with his arm; he has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts. He has brought down the powerful from their thrones, and lifted up the lowly; he has filled the hungry with good things, and sent the rich away empty. He has helped his servant Israel, in remembrance of his mercy, according to the promise he made to our ancestors, to Abraham and to his descendants forever.”
Luke 1:46–49 NRSV
And Mary said, “My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has looked with favor on the lowliness of his servant. Surely, from now on all generations will call me blessed; for the Mighty One has done great things for me, and holy is his name.
3 Things
Luke 1:46–47 NRSV
And Mary said, “My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
—> How far does our praise and adoration go?
—> For Mary it went down to her very core, her very being.
—> All of who she was magnified the Lord, not just her mouth, or her deeds but everything.
Luke 1:48 NRSV
for he has looked with favor on the lowliness of his servant. Surely, from now on all generations will call me blessed;
—> Mary recognizes her humility, despite the loftiness of her position.
—> God didn’t choose someone rich, or powerful, he picked someone normal.
—> That normal person was changed.
—> Jesus’ entrance into our lives changes us too.
Luke 1:49 NRSV
for the Mighty One has done great things for me, and holy is his name.
—> Mary calls God “mighty,” (strong and powerful) not because of what He specifically has done for her but for all the things He has done throughout time.
—> Our reality of who God is isn’t based solely on our understanding and experience but on the collective understanding of God for all time.
—> Just as in Isaiah 9:6, Jesus the unborn Savior and promised Messiah isn’t called Mighty God because of what the people have seen him do, but instead it is because of who he is.
