v. 20-21,

Of the apostates, concerning the beloved, back to the beloved, concerning themselves...
build yourselves up
on your faith
it is holy, it is most holy
pray in the Spirit
keep yourselves in God’s love
John 15:9–10 NKJV
“As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love. If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love.
look for the mercy of Christ (waiting for)
in light of eternal life (toward)

v. 22-23,

The beloved, concerning the wayward or lost...
Have compassion… have mercy
2 Timothy 2:24–25 NKJV
And a servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all, able to teach, patient, in humility correcting those who are in opposition, if God perhaps will grant them repentance, so that they may know the truth,
to them who doubt, who make distinctions
it is the kindness of God that renders repentance
show mercy as (v. 21b) we have been shown mercy
Have fear
to instill in them
as if through fire
Have mercy and fear
to retain in you
that you may not be singed
hating even the garment that is defiled
there are those so wretched that the defilement within stains even their garments… from these, keep yourselves alert
for their sake and yours (cast your members)
Some need soft love, some need tough love. Some need compassion and answers, some need fear and rebuke.
But in either situation, keep your face as flint, not mistaking compassion for compromise or rebuke for the wrath of man.

v. 24-25,

To Him, to God
His grace is sufficient, He will complete the work. He will preserve you blameless, He will give you joy
He alone is God, He is the savior, (He alone is wise)
Through Christ...
Glory, majesty, dominion, authority
From before the foundations of the world, till now, into eternity
