And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp twoedged sword: and his countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength.
Intro: What a sight this is when we consider Christ in this manner. So different than His appearance here on earth as a man. I am so thankful that through the eyes of faith we can see Him as He is! One day, all the world, believing and non believing will see Him as He is and will recognize His countenance because of the glory it contains!
But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise
With healing in his wings;
And ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall.
1828 Definition: Literally, the contents of a body; the outline and extent which constitutes the whole figure or external appearance. Appropriately, the human face; the whole form of the face, or system of features; visage.
But the Lord said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart.
The Countenance of _____________________:
But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell.
Wherefore the king said unto me, Why is thy countenance sad, seeing thou art not sick? this is nothing else but sorrow of heart. Then I was very sore afraid, And said unto the king, Let the king live for ever: why should not my countenance be sad, when the city, the place of my fathers’ sepulchres, lieth waste, and the gates thereof are consumed with fire?
Then the king’s countenance was changed, and his thoughts troubled him, so that the joints of his loins were loosed, and his knees smote one against another.
Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
It is interesting in the Scriptures that often times when a man’s countenance is spoken of it is the result of trouble. Even the hypocrite attempted to show himself as a troubled man...
The Countenance of __________________:
And as he prayed, the fashion of his countenance was altered, and his raiment was white and glistering.
And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp twoedged sword: and his countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength.
While the countenance of man often portrays there weakness, the countenance of God portrays His strength!
For they got not the land in possession by their own sword,
Neither did their own arm save them:
But thy right hand, and thine arm, and the light of thy countenance,
Because thou hadst a favour unto them.
The _________________________ of God’s Countenance on Man:
And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, Speak unto Aaron and unto his sons, saying, On this wise ye shall bless the children of Israel, saying unto them,
The Lord bless thee, and keep thee:
The Lord make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee:
The Lord lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.
And they shall put my name upon the children of Israel; and I will bless them.
Then the woman came and told her husband, saying, A man of God came unto me, and his countenance was like the countenance of an angel of God, very terrible: but I asked him not whence he was, neither told he me his name:
And Manoah said unto his wife, We shall surely die, because we have seen God. But his wife said unto him, If the Lord were pleased to kill us, he would not have received a burnt offering and a meat offering at our hands, neither would he have shewed us all these things, nor would as at this time have told us such things as these.
There be many that say, Who will shew us any good?
Lord, Lift thou up the light of thy countenance upon us.
Thou hast put gladness in my heart,
More than in the time that their corn and their wine increased.
I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep:
For thou, Lord, only makest me dwell in safety.
For thou hast made him most blessed for ever:
Thou hast made him exceeding glad with thy countenance.
Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me?
Hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him
For the help of his countenance.
O my God, my soul is cast down within me: therefore will I remember thee
From the land of Jordan, and of the Hermonites, from the hill Mizar.
Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me?
Hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him,
Who is the health of my countenance, and my God.
Blessed is the people that know the joyful sound:
They shall walk, O Lord, in the light of thy countenance.
Read: Luke 9:28-36
Why do you think Peter said “Master, it is good for us to be here?” _______________________________________________________________________.
The Lord lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.
If we lost power tonight, and all of our batteries were dead, and non of our candles would light. What would be the one thing that would bring peace to an otherwise peace-less night? _____________________________________.
Darkness is the absence of light… We live in a dark world and at times it weighs very heavy on us but we can have peace because of the light of His countenance!
Again, a new commandment I write unto you, which thing is true in him and in you: because the darkness is past, and the true light now shineth.
It is the glory of Christ, the brightness of His countenance that will one day, expose every aspect of darkness and with His might, He will dispel it once and for all!
Thou hast made known to me the ways of life; thou shalt make me full of joy with thy countenance.
