Who is the Son of Man?
Who is the Son of Man?
In Luke 1:1-4:15 Luke has 9 testimonies and descriptions of Jesus.
The Word: (Logos) Debatable.
Luke 1:2 “2 just as those who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and ministers of the word delivered them to us,”
Ministers — (servants, but not slaves)
Same word used in of Paul
Acts 26:16 “16 But rise and stand on your feet; for I have appeared to you for this purpose, to make you a minister and a witness both of the things which you have seen and of the things which I will yet reveal to you.”
John 1:1–5 “1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. 4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.”
The Angel Gabriel to Zechariah
Luke 1:15–17 “15 For he will be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink. He will also be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother’s womb. 16 And he will turn many of the children of Israel to the Lord their God. 17 He will also go before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah, ‘to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children,’ and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just, to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.””
Malachi 4:6 “6 And he will turn The hearts of the fathers to the children, And the hearts of the children to their fathers, Lest I come and strike the earth with a curse.””
Cursed or Blessed
The earth —
Sometimes translated Land for a region, almost as often translated earth,
Genesis 1:1 “1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”
The Curse of death from Genesis 1 or the blessing of God returned?
Gabriel to Mary
Luke 1:30–33 “30 Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. 31 And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus. 32 He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. 33 And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.””
Son of the Highest (God)
Thrown of His father David.
Reign forever
Luke 1:35 “35 And the angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God.”
God would literally be His Father.
This would make Him the firstborn of the Father.
Colossians 1:15–18 “15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. 17 And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist. 18 And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence.”
1 Corinthians 15:21–22 “21 For since by man came death, by Man also came the resurrection of the dead. 22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive.”
1 Corinthians 15:45 “45 And so it is written, “The first man Adam became a living being.” The last Adam became a life-giving spirit.”
Announcement to the Shepherds.
Luke 2:10–14 “10 Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. 11 For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. 12 And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.” 13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: 14 “Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!””
Good tidings of Great Joy to all people.
City of David, Savior, Anointed of the Lord.
On Earth… Peace
Elizabeth and John are lead to Testify
Luke 1:43–44 “43 But why is this granted to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? 44 For indeed, as soon as the voice of your greeting sounded in my ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy.”
Mary also Testifies
Luke 1:46–47 “46 And Mary said: “My soul magnifies the Lord, 47 And my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior.”
Luke 1:54–55 “54 He has helped His servant Israel, In remembrance of His mercy, 55 As He spoke to our fathers, To Abraham and to his seed forever.””
Zechariah
Luke 1:76–79 “76 “And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Highest; For you will go before the face of the Lord to prepare His ways, 77 To give knowledge of salvation to His people By the remission of their sins, 78 Through the tender mercy of our God, With which the Dayspring from on high has visited us; 79 To give light to those who sit in darkness and the shadow of death, To guide our feet into the way of peace.””
Isaiah 40 where comfort is promised to Israel.
Salvation by remission of sins.
the dayspring (Sun rise)
To give light.
To guide our feet into the way of peace.
Not an external peace between men.
But a Spiritual peace with God. (A Way to follow, Luke uses this in Acts as His chosen description for those who follow Jesus.)
The Angels give their Testimony
Luke 2:10–11 “10 Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. 11 For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.”
All people

Your Salvation is wrapped up in a blanket.
Light to bring revelation to the Gentiles.

Jesus as a Boy in the Temple
Luke 2:49 “49 And He said to them, “Why did you seek Me? Did you not know that I must be about My Father’s business?”” (house)
The Message of John
Luke 3:4–6 “4 as it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet, saying: “The voice of one crying in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the Lord; Make His paths straight. 5 Every valley shall be filled And every mountain and hill brought low; The crooked places shall be made straight And the rough ways smooth; 6 And all flesh shall see the salvation of God.’ ””
Luke 3:8 “8 Therefore bear fruits worthy of repentance, and do not begin to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I say to you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones.”
The true children of Abraham. (stones)
Romans 9:6–9 “6 But it is not that the word of God has taken no effect. For they are not all Israel who are of Israel, 7 nor are they all children because they are the seed of Abraham; but, “In Isaac your seed shall be called.” 8 That is, those who are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God; but the children of the promise are counted as the seed. 9 For this is the word of promise: “At this time I will come and Sarah shall have a son.””
The Genealogy that goes to God on Mary’s side.
His victory over Satan Luke 4:1-13
Jesus self declaration in the synagogue of Nazareth
Luke 4:16–19 “16 So He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up. And as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read. 17 And He was handed the book of the prophet Isaiah. And when He had opened the book, He found the place where it was written: 18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed; 19 To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.””
This Christmas Season what will you do with the Son of Man?
This Christmas Season what will you do with the Son of Man?
Luke 1:74–75 “74 To grant us that we, Being delivered from the hand of our enemies, Might serve Him without fear, 75 In holiness and righteousness before Him all the days of our life.”
How many today realize what the blessings of God are for? These blessings were not given to us to please us, to make us great, but to bring glory to God through our living for Him with Joy.
Look at the Fruits of the Spirit that He gives. It is a good life, but a life that is to be lived in Him, with Him, and for Him.
Luke 1:78–79 “78 Through the tender mercy of our God, With which the Dayspring from on high has visited us; 79 To give light to those who sit in darkness and the shadow of death, To guide our feet into the way of peace.””
He has also given us light, knowledge of God and His way. This light shows us the way. Without it we are wandering in dark places, full of traps and pit falls. With it, we see the way and can navigate the difficult circumstances of life.
Are we studying this knowledge that God has given to us? Are we applying it as we walk?
The end result is of course is that we are walking in the way of Peace with God. WE go through life rejoicing in our peace with God. That is what this Christmas time is really about.
Salvation has come.
Sin will be atoned for.
And the way to God opened. May we serve Him this season in Joy.
