Romans 6:15-17 God be thanked!
Paul stops his theological exhortation to remind the believers that they should live a life a gratitude towards God for the amazing work he has done in their lives.
We often talk about God’s grace and his wonderful salvation but we must often stop and give thanks to him
Many discussions can be had about what we can do, what we should do, what we can’t do, what we shouldn’t do but let us make all that secondary today and thank God for his grace
This attitude of thanksgiving will help us with the rest but we must start here for correct motivation in a life lived for Christ

Thank God for rescuing us from sin

We were bound to sin and wickedness on our way to hell when God found us
We were deserving of death because of our wicked rebellion against God
Romans 3:11 reminds us that we were not looking for God but he came looking for us
We were servants of sin, doing the will of satan
Satan was not willing to let us go freely or easily. He has us right where he wanted us
A great price was paid to free us from the grips of satan and death- the very life and blood of the perfect Son of God, Jesus Christ
Not only did God do what was necessary to pay the price for our redemption but he began an inward work to draw us to himself!

Thank God for drawing our hearts

God has opened the door of salvation for all people to come to him
There is no person that is too far removed from God’s grace (Paul is the true example of this truth)
He is drawing all men unto himself (John 12:32)
God has placed the truth of obedience unto righteousness by faith in our hearts
Paul teaches more on this in Romans 10:1-10
We can place our faith in Jesus Christ for salvation, no other spiritual work is needed
God has prepared the way for salvation and has given the Holy Spirit to draw and work in people’s hearts. But God’s grace extends even farther in that he commissioned his Word and his church to hand deliver the doctrine of salvation to the world.

Thank God for delivering his gospel

God has preserved his words in the Word of God through the work of the Holy Spirit
From the very beginning, God has given witness of his works through his servants
These holy scriptures make us wise unto salvation (2 Timothy 3:15-17)
God has been working since the day of Pentecost to bring the good news through out all the world
He gave his great commandment to the church just before his ascension (Matthew 28:19-20)
He has empowered, strengthened and encouraged his church to fulfill this work he has given us
Once we understand all that God has done for our salvation we can began a life of thanksgiving and even have the correct motivation in living our life as a servant of the great king!
