Mary's Memorizes of Christmas (Luke 2:1-21)
Mary's Memorizes of Christmas (Luke 2:1-21)
Memory of Anxiety (Luke 1:26-33)
Memory of Anxiety (Luke 1:26-33)
While some have anxiety and stress over Christmas, Mary really had a time. SHE’S ABOUT TO CARRY THE SON OF GOD!
She is hearing that she will be the virgin of Isaiah 7:14 “Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, And shall call his name Immanuel.”
She is also about to carry the Son of God, the lamb and the lion. Isaiah 9:6–7 “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: And the government shall be upon his shoulder: And his name shall be called Wonderful, Counseller, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, Upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, To order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice From henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.”
God hasn’t given us the spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind!
When the Scriptures and the Spirit tell us to do something, we shouldn’t be terrified, we should just trust! (Luke 1:38 “And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.” )
Memory of Approaching (2:1-5)
Memory of Approaching (2:1-5)
Don’t you think this journey was hard? From Galilee to Bethlehem was around 70-90 miles. (In a car would be no time) That’s a long walk for a pregnant woman! (Erm going up the hill when she was pregnant)
She had to have known that when they got to Bethlehem that time was getting close.
Micah 5:2 “But thou, Beth-lehem Ephratah, Though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, Yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; Whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.”
Ain’t you glad that we can know He is soon approaching because of the Word of God?
James 5:8 “Be ye also patient; stablish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh.”
2 Peter 3:3–5 “Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:” WE’RE NOT IGNORANT OF THIS FACT THAT JESUS COULD COME BACK ANY MINUTE!
1 Thessalonians 4:13–18 “But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words.”
IT’S SOON GETTING TIME TO SEE JESUS CHRIST!
Memory of the Accommodations (2:7)
Memory of the Accommodations (2:7)
Mary didn’t have a an ambulance to pick her up, a hospital room to stay in, ice chips, or an epidural.
Ever been to a dirty motel, a nasty restaurant? This was worse. It was outside, in a stall where the animals slept, ate, and used the bathroom. When Jesus was born, they laid Him in a manger (feeding trough).
He made himself of NO REPUTATION (not a kings birth)
Took upon him the form of a servant (manifest in human flesh)
He humbled himself (born in a lowly manger)
WE MAY NOT ALWAYS HAVE THE BEST MATERIAL THINGS AT CHRISTMAS, BUT WE’LL ALWAYS HAVE CHRIST!!!!
Memory of His Arriving (2:7)
Memory of His Arriving (2:7)
After all these crazy things happening, Christ finally came.
Galatians 4:4–5 “But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.”
His coming was promised, and He came!
The first time He came was for Calvary! The second time He comes is to Conquer!
The first time He came was to redeem. The second time He comes is to reign!
The first time He came He was a lamb. The second time He comes He’ll be a lion!
He came the first time, and you better believe He’s coming a second time!!!
John 16:21–22 “A woman when she is in travail hath sorrow, because her hour is come: but as soon as she is delivered of the child, she remembereth no more the anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world. And ye now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you.”
Revelation 21:4 “And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.”
Isaiah 65:17 “For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: And the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind.”
Memory of the Amazement (2:19)
Memory of the Amazement (2:19)
Christ coming had such an effect on Mary that she couldn’t get her mind off of it.
The same effect should be had on all of us. Christ coming the first time, dying for our sins, raising the 3rd morning and ascending to the Father should so consume our mind.
It’s crazy to think that we may be part of the Second coming. (Not Tribulation, but traveling to the clouds, not wrath but rapture). And once we see the Savior, we’ll be amazed, and it’s all we’ll ever be able to think about.
