This Week’s Theme: Put on the Mindset of Christ
Word for the Week is Mind: It is the seat of human consciousness, thought, and desires. Scripture stresses that the minds of believers must be shaped by the knowledge and love of God, as their ways of thinking and acting become more like the pattern set out in Jesus Christ
Memory verse: Philippians 2:5 “5 Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus,”
Essence of the Text: In his discussion of Christ’s suffering, Peter called the scattered saints to use His example as motivation to live righteously.
Proposition: As believers in Christ, we are called to use Christ’s response to suffering as motivation to live righteously.
Objective: I want those in attendance to approach suffering for Christ with understanding, patience, and hope.
Sermon Passage: 1 Peter 4:1-3
1 Therefore, since Christ suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same mind, for he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin,
2 that he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh for the lusts of men, but for the will of God.
3 For we have spent enough of our past lifetime in doing the will of the Gentiles—when we walked in lewdness, lusts, drunkenness, revelries, drinking parties, and abominable idolatries.

1 Therefore, since Christ suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same mind, for he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin,
18 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit,
(NKJV)
18 For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:
Romans 13:12-14 (NKJV)
12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light.
13 Let us walk properly, as in the day, not in revelry and drunkenness, not in lewdness and lust, not in strife and envy.
14 But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts.
12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light. 13 Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying. 14 But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to [fulfil] the lusts [thereof].
Philippians 2:5 (NKJV)
5 Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus,
5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
Hebrews 12:3 (NKJV)
3 For consider Him who endured such hostility from sinners against Himself, lest you become weary and discouraged in your souls.
3 For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.

12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts.
13 And do not present your members as instruments of unrighteousness to sin, but present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God.
71 It is good for me that I have been afflicted, That I may learn Your statutes.
3 And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance;
4 and perseverance, character; and character, hope.
5 Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.
