LESSON SEVEN: PETITIONARY PRAYER (Key)

When our asking is for ourselves it is called petition; when it is on behalf of others it is called intercession.

In the Bible God gives us some guidelines for asking prayers.

Nine principles for making requests to God:

1.  Ask in the Spirit

2.  Ask according to God's will

3.  Ask with the mind

 4. Ask in Jesus’ name

5.  Ask while abiding in Christ

6.  Ask in faith

7.  Ask in humility

8.  Ask in sincerity

9.  Ask with perseverance

ASKING OTHERS TO PRAY FOR YOU:

1.     Shows your dependence on God.

2.   Demonstrates lowliness before God and humility before others.

3.   Brings greater authority to prayer.

4.   Increases the amount of praying in your behalf.

5.  Broadens the understanding of how to pray for your need.

6.      Blesses those who have the privilege of praying for you

7.   Strengthens the bond of love between you and those who pray for you

    8.  Secures strength for an area of personal weakness or failure.

The Lord moves mightily on behalf of those who wait for and before him.

    God’s power can change circumstances and relation­ships.

James 5:16 says that: ‘The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.'

Prayer is powerful because of Christ’s victory at Calvary.

1.     At the cross, Jesus drove out Satan, “the prince of this world” (John 12:31—33).

2.   At the cross, Jesus “disarmed the powers and authori­ties” (Col. 2:15).

3.   At the cross, Satan and his unclean spirits were destroyed (Heb. 2:14).

3.     As a result of Calvary, the Resurrection, and the Ascension, Christ is enthroned.
