A little background on Timothy:
close companion, fellow laborer, and spiritual son of apostle Paul
3rd generation believer in Christ
an evangelist by gifting and calling
he was given apostolic authority in the Ephesian church by apostle Paul to appoint elders and deacons and establish correct doctrine (establish order)
he was very young at the time of his commission as the general overseer and acting apostle of Ephesus
Timothy/you:
Timothy had a gift, calling or life mission, and assignments. So do you.
Timothy had advantages. So do you.
Timothy had disadvantages. So do you
Timothy had obstacles. So do you
Timothy had one incredibly huge obstacle: his age.
in that time and culture, physical age was a huge factor in one’s social rank and respect
Paul gives him instructions in completing his assignment in Ephesus, and then tells him not to let anyone undermine him because of his age
