1 John 2:16–17 ESV
16 For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life—is not from the Father but is from the world. 17 And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.
take them on the journey
-my first time hearing this at the top of my stairs in college
-world is passing away like a river that is here then gone
-i thought about my friends and family that werent living their faith
(scared me)
-what are your first thoughts
Very sobering
-did you do the will of God today?
will you abide forever then?
Lets not guilt anyone into doing good though.
John already set us at peace in chapter 1
Christians will still sin.
Presence of still messing up shouldnt make you question your salvation
1 John 1:6–10 ESV
6 If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. 8 If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
So what should we take from this passage.
The key is this:
Things of this world are passing away.
What have you made most important in your life?
Nothing is random, and what you place your total confidence in will take you one of two places.
In the end, God gives people what they want.
Totally Himself or totally what this world has to offer.
The promise is that the things of this world are passing away.
He is forever.
