The heart of Paul

Colossians 2:1–7 (NKJV)
1 For I want you to know what a great conflict I have for you and those in Laodicea, and for as many as have not seen my face in the flesh,
2 that their hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love, and attaining to all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the knowledge of the mystery of God, both of the Father and of Christ,
3 in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
4 Now this I say lest anyone should deceive you with persuasive words.
5 For though I am absent in the flesh, yet I am with you in spirit, rejoicing to see your good order and the steadfastness of your faith in Christ.
6 As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him,
7 rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving.
Colossians 2:1 (NKJV)
1 For I want you to know what a great conflict I have for you and those in Laodicea, and for as many as have not seen my face in the flesh,
Colossians 2:1 (AMP)
1 FOR I want you to know how great is my solicitude for you [how severe an inward struggle I am engaged in for you] and for those [believers] at Laodicea, and for all who [like yourselves] have never seen my face and known me personally.
Paul writing to this church. As we will see, there was false teaching going on. It didn’t take the devil long to start false teaching in the church.
2 Timothy 4:1–4 NKJV
1 I charge you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living and the dead at His appearing and His kingdom: 2 Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. 3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; 4 and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.
Acts 22:28–30 NKJV
28 The commander answered, “With a large sum I obtained this citizenship.” And Paul said, “But I was born a citizen.” 29 Then immediately those who were about to examine him withdrew from him; and the commander was also afraid after he found out that he was a Roman, and because he had bound him. 30 The next day, because he wanted to know for certain why he was accused by the Jews, he released him from his bonds, and commanded the chief priests and all their council to appear, and brought Paul down and set him before them.
Paul had a heart for the lost.
He also had a heart to fellow followers of Jesus.
Paul had the heart of a shepherd. He cared about the flock. He a heart for the sheep.
To live a christian life, you have to have a love for people.
For I want you to know what a great conflict I have for you and those in Laodicea.
2 cities a few miles apart.
“For I want you to know what a great conflict I have for you”
Notice the last part of the verse.
“and for as many as have not seen my face in the flesh,”
Means “Face to face”
Conflict: agony [how severe an inward struggle I am engaged in for you]
Paul was concerned for them because of false teachings.
Paul was in agony for people that he had never seen. Now Paul is in prison. He can’t go see them, and he is in agony.
I believe what does is pray for them.
When you have a problem that you can not handle. Pray.
Look at what Paul prays for them.
Colossians 2:2 (NKJV)
2 that their hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love, and attaining to all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the knowledge of the mystery of God, both of the Father and of Christ,
“that their hearts may be encouraged”
KJV comforted.
He was praying God to comfort their hearts. For them to be encountered.
This is what the spirit of God does.
They needed to be encouraged when going through a tuff time.
This is what we need to pray for people that are going through a tuff or difficult time.
"being knit together in love,”
Praying for them to be “knit” together in love.
We need to help, encourage other beleivers in love. REAL LOVE NOT FAKE LOVE.
“and attaining to all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the knowledge of the mystery of God, both of the Father and of Christ,”
Colossians 2:3 NKJV
3 in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
False teaching will bring doubt. Paul wanted to have that full assurance.
“mystery of God” speaking of Jesus.
Colossians 2:4 (NKJV)
4 Now this I say lest anyone should deceive you with persuasive words.
“ inciting words”
Some false teachers are good with speech. Hitler was a great speaker.
Jim Jones.
Joel Osteen.
These false teachers. Silver tongues, had people believing their words.
In church, scripture can be twisted.
People with “persuasive words” are trying to sell you something.
Colossians 2:5 (NKJV)
5 For though I am absent in the flesh, yet I am with you in spirit, rejoicing to see your good order and the steadfastness of your faith in Christ.
“good order and the steadfastness of your faith in Christ.”
Military term for standing in rank.
Colossians 2:6–7 (NKJV)
6 As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him,
7 rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving.
He prays for them in agony. He encourages them, beware to those who speech false words. He encouraged them to stand side by side.
Now he saying VS 6 Walk in Christ Jesus.
VS 7 “rooted” and built up in Him and established in the faith,
A tree needs to be rooted to grow, rooted to bring forth fruit.
God wants us to be rooted in His word.
Psalm 1:3 NKJV
3 He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper.
“as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving
Thet had those who taught them the truth.
For that they needed to be thankful.
