“Peace”
Introduction:
For the second week of advent we are going to focus on Peace. The coming of Jesus Christ is to bring peace on earth so much that Isaiah calls him the Prince of Peace.
Question:
What does peace mean?
According to the Webster Dictionary peace means “a state of tranquility or quiet: such as freedom from civil disturbance.
Let’s take a look at the word peace from a biblical perspective:
The word peace appeared in the old testament book of the bible 237 times and it appeared in the new testament book of the bible appears 91 times.
In the old testament the word peace is translated from the Hebrew word shalom. It means being in a state of wholeness or completeness, without any deficiency or lack.
In the new testament the word peace is translated from the Greek word eirene. It means unity, it is bring multiple parts together to form a whole or set it as one again.
In the old testament we see the anticipation of peace and in the new testament we see the confirmation of peace.
