The New King James Version Chapter 8

How does the summer fruit connect to what the Lord says in the latter part of this verse and the following verses?

In fact it doesn’t, except what one might speculate; that the basket of summer fruit is what the Lord was looking for in Israel but was not what He was recieving or that the fruit had spoiled and gone bad. However, this is pure speculation. The point is this; when the Lord speaks to His prophets the pictures and visions are at best symbolic and may not tie directly into the thought being conveyed. So why give them to the prophet? I do not know except that the Lord said that He would speak to a true prophet by visions (Num 12:6 )

Amos not only recieved visions but heard the word of the Lord and spoke it but the visions remained somewhat mysterious and did not define the import of the words that followed.
