So we are talking about a supernatural lifestyle and a supernatural church. How do we operate in the supernatural realm of God?
Last week we discussed embracing our humanity, not as the world designed it, but as God commanded it. By embracing who we are and who we aren’t we can see where God is going to work in our lives.
This morning I want to go through Acts chapter 1 1-9 to see the 5 aspects of living a supernatural life.
1 In the first book, O Theophilus, I have dealt with all that Jesus began to do and teach,
Demonstration and Declaration.
To do and Teach. One could assume this order is just at random to how Jesus was speaking but we see it again.
19 And he said to them, “What things?” And they said to him, “Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, a man who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people,
Notice on numerous accounts Jesus’ deed came well before his words. This is one of my biggest issue with society today. They want to know before they do anything, but Jesus came to turn society on it’s head. He simply states it isn’t about knowing—it’s about doing—it’s about the demonstration of my mighty power.
Did you ever ask yourself why people attack the supernatural gifts of God more than his words. Very few people talk about his word not being true most try to twist it or discredit the works and the gifts of the Spirit of God.
But Jesus laid the foundaiton of see God’s power manifest on Earth and then learning. People are saved by the power of your testimony. By what God is doing in you and through you.
They don’t want to hear about it. They want to see it. Why would I want your rules if your life is no different than mine?
2. Obedience
4 And while staying with them he ordered them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which, he said, “you heard from me;
In order to receive the gifts people had to be obedient. They had to stay put. There has to be obedience with power. We know in the natural world that power used wrongly and for personal gain can only bring destruction.
God also equates obeidence to love.
If you love me keep my commands. To Him they are one in the same.
3. Holy Spirit focused and filled
8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
We can go back to the NT and see where the Holy Spirit was required to do great works.
I love this quote although I can’t remember where I got it from
A theology without suffering is demonic
When we are Holy Spirit focused we have our eyes on what God desires and wants which removes what we desire and want.
10 When they came to Gibeah, behold, a group of prophets met him, and the Spirit of God rushed upon him, and he prophesied among them.
There is no power in me to do any miracles or works, but rather it’s the power of God inside of us, given to us at the day of pentecost when the Spirit fell like tongues of fire upon the disciples.
4. Kingdom Builders
14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.
In order to grow the Kingdom of God you have to actively proclaim God’s salvation and kingdom. Everything God’ does is to build the kingdom. If you want to live a supernatural lifestyle, but you don’t want to work to build the Kingdom than God isn’t going to pour out his power on you. He isn’t going to give you power just so we feel powerful.
Everything God does is to bring people into the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.
5. Missional
This ties into building the kingdom. Here’s the kicker though. Not all us are called to be full time missionaries abroad, but we can send finances. We can be missional with those around us. We can find ways to tell people about Jesus. We can fund people to tell people about Jesus. We can tie into missions trips, we can tie in with other ministry partners. It’s about providing for all people to do the call God has on their lives.
16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
