Divine Messiah, the deity of Christ

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. Deity, what does it mean?

The definition for Deity in todays terms is:

divine status, quality, or nature. "a ruler driven by delusions of deity" the creator and supreme being (in a monotheistic religion such as Christianity). noun: Deity; noun: the Deity "she raised her head as if appealing to the Deity presiding over the church" a representation of a god or goddess, such as a statue or carving. "also on show is a bronze falcon deity"

Now a deity can be of any form. It can be a statue. It can be a painting it can be a myriad of different things. In the Bible we read a lot about idols. Those idols were in those times, the deity for those folks.

But I am reminded of the story of Elijah when he called down fire from heaven against the prophets of Baal.

You see the deity of Christ isnt just a mere idol, or statue or some historic mythology. No the deity of Christ is affirmed and reaffirmed through Gods word, the works of Christ while he was on this earth, the prophetic fulfillment.

The Incarnation required no compromise of deity. When the “Word was made flesh,” His deity did not suffer. Before His Incarnation, Christ was absolute deity; after His Incarnation, He was just as much deity as before. His deity suffered nothing when He became flesh.

The Fullness of deity

In John 1 we read about Christ being the “word”, the translation of this word into greek means word; message. So Christ was the fulfillment of Gods word towards man.

John 1:3 “All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.” —this tells us that Christ was from the foundation of the world, he was not created, he endued from God, humbled himself as a man and took on flesh for our sins.

Colossians 2:9–11 “For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power: In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:” and references back to Colossians 2:3–4 “In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. And this I say, lest any man should beguile you with enticing words.”

Meaning that in Christ. The deity of God made manifest to us for us to be complete IN HIM. That we may experience the fullness or the completeness of Gods love for us through his birth!!

Colossians 2:14 “Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;”

Without the deity of Christ

The power of sin would continue to reign

We would have no ability to obtain grace or mercy from God as gentiles

There is no salvation without the deity of Christ

There is no help against God’s wrath and his judgement.

The Greek word for “word” in John is logos. Meaning the message, or The word. The Aramaic language at the time would have used this word in the manner of the meaning YWHW. So aramaic Jews at the time would have realized that John was referring to the Deity of Christ by calling him “the word”.

The personification of Gods word, of Gods love and of Gods mercy

Jesus was beget not created.

Jesus was not a creature that was created he is of the very essence and nature of God

Jesus IS the alpha and Omega, beginning and end, first and the last

Christ did not surrender his deity to come to this earth, he veiled it.

I’ve heard many say that Christ surrendered his deity, or his Godhood. But this isnt true

Jesus had to come to this earth as a man for it to be possible for him to die.

We would have had no sacrifice for the washing of sins if he would have came to this earth as a reigning king.

Christs deity when he was born in a manger in a stable, was not changed or lessened or reduced. No. That baby in a manger was and is still the alpha and the omega. The beginning and the end. The first and the last.

He knew you before you were even in the womb.

He was, before anything else was.

The I ams of Jesus asserting his deity

When Jesus asserts his deity when he gives the many “I am’s” in scripture, we have volumes of historical and scriptural reference to back up his assertation of his deity. No other being in history has been able to substantiate their deity through, prophetic fulfillment or miracles.

In John 6 he says I am the bread of life

In John 8 he says I am the light of the world

In John 10 he says I am the gatekeeper and the only way to get into heaven

In John 10 he also says I am the good shepherd

In John 11 he says I am the way, the truth and the life

In John 15 he says I am the true vine

Do you know what the I am statements of Jesus mean for you today?

It means that he is the great I am.

It means that he is alpha and omega

It means that that star over bethlehem was not just any star, it was a symbol to the whole world that light had entered. That the divinity of Christ had just smiled upon the whole earth!!

It means that those that sit in great darkness, even today Christ can shine the light of salvation unto them.

It means that the trials we go through, the depression, the anxiety and stress of this life, they’re all under control because he is the Great I Am!

Closing

I would like to encourage you tonight church and hopefully give you some meat to chew on.

Oh, I never imagined how strong Christ was till I saw His love hold back His Deity!

Jesus told them while he was on the cross that he could call a legion of angels to his aid. But he didnt.

Jesus could have came as the great big God that he is, riding on a white horse ready for war. But he didnt. He still came as the great big God that we know, but he didnt come in the way most thought he would come.

So whatever it is that you face right now in this moment, I would like to tell you that the great I am, is still the great I am. He never lost his power. He never lost his deity.
