Intro: It’s Christmas Eve! I hope you have plans to enjoy the holiday and all it brings. We know that the the secular world, and those in other religions do Christmas with different motives, focus and even aspirations of this holiday.
For Christians, Christmas is a very special time of the year. I’m not going to argue with people the actual date of the year Jesus was born. That does not really matter. You can also find big debates about what year He was born, and if there really was a census or not. Again, I am not celebrating Christmas to have a reason to argue and pick fights who are my brothers and sisters or who those who need my Saviour.
Theme: Christmas is our celebration of Jesus’s birth - born Saviour, Christ and Lord.

Saviour

I have already spent a good bit of time on why a saviour is needed in the first message of this series. If you don’t remember that, I encourage you to go back and listen to it in line.
Today I want to focus on other aspects of our Saviour that I purposefully left out last time.
A. Our Saviour was born.
He was not an alien that appeared as a fully grown man. He took no shortcuts so that we could best know what God is like.
Galatians 4:4–5 (NKJV)
When the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons.
B. Born for the plural “You”!
John 3:16 (ESV)
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
This you also includes benefit. This is “for you all”.
C. Today is the day.
I’m glad that the angel did not delay or put this off till they got around to it. The very day the Saviour is born, the angel tells shepherds about it.
Many times we can put off what we honestly believe God wants us to say to people that could change their lives. Some would even say it is a human trait. I understand.
This morning, today, I want us to think about the impact of that. If the angel had delayed until after Mary, Joseph and the child had fled to Egypt it would not have had the same impact. While not always true, timing can be important to the impact of the message.
D. Lastly, This was happening near by in the present location of the shepherds. It was all taking place just up the road in the city of David as Micah 5.2-3 had prophesied.
This was important because the Christ had to be born there according to prophesy. Never underestimate how accurately Jesus fulfilled prophecy after prophecy until all that were designated for His first coming were fulfilled - not some - ALL. The wonderful thing is that He will come again to fulfill the many other prophecies about His second coming. This may be soon!

Christ

A. Christ means anointed one
The Jewish people were longing to God’s anointed to come and lead them as a nation. They wanted someone with skin on rather than just a voice and a book.
B. Christ is King.
While he may not have His kingdom visible here on earth today, He is still King.
Jesus taught His disciples to teach that the Kingdom of Heaven was at hand - Mt 10.5.
John 18:36–37 ESV
Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not of this world. If my kingdom were of this world, my servants would have been fighting, that I might not be delivered over to the Jews. But my kingdom is not from the world.” Then Pilate said to him, “So you are a king?” Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. For this purpose I was born and for this purpose I have come into the world—to bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice.”

Lord

Matthew 1:23 NKJV
“Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.”
Emmanu = person along side
El = God, Divine being

Of God as the supreme Lord and Sovereign of the universe, usually corresponding to Jehovah

A. He is supreme over creation

He is as the Bible clearly states the King of kings and Lord of lords. - once in 1 Tim and twice in Rev.
By virtue of His superior wisdom, knowledge, strength, and character the proper role for Jesus is our Lord! He knows what is best, what will be most satisfying, what works for our relationships, what we need, how we feel and so much more.

B. He is supreme over His Church

E S V (Eph 5.23)
...Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Saviour
Earlier this year we did a massive study on the church. Christ is the head, Christ is it’s Lord, Master, Founder, Creator, the one who gives it’s gifts, provides leadership, direction, opportunities and more. He is the best Lord the church could ever hope for!

C. He is our Lord as supreme teacher

John 13:13–14 NKJV
You call Me Teacher and Lord, and you say well, for so I am. If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet.
He is our supreme teacher by example and by word. The best teachers live out what they teach.

Conclusion: Jesus is our only saviour because He is also Christ and Lord!

Far to often people want freedom from guilt without a real saviour. They have no interest in a King or Lord over their life. This can’t be!
Just as, if you want me as your pastor, you have to look at this face, to an even greater extent if you have Jesus as your Saviour He must also be your Christ and Lord.

Q1. How much to you connect with the Saviour who was born for you?

Q2. This Christmas, Is our life reflective of Jesus as our King?

Q3. What in our lives shows that we believe Jesus was born to be our supreme teacher as our Lord?
