Luke 2:22–28 CSB
22 And when the days of their purification according to the law of Moses were finished, they brought him up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord 23 (just as it is written in the law of the Lord, Every firstborn male will be dedicated to the Lord) 24 and to offer a sacrifice (according to what is stated in the law of the Lord, a pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons). 25 There was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon. This man was righteous and devout, looking forward to Israel’s consolation, and the Holy Spirit was on him. 26 It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he saw the Lord’s Messiah. 27 Guided by the Spirit, he entered the temple. When the parents brought in the child Jesus to perform for him what was customary under the law, 28 Simeon took him up in his arms, praised God, and said,
Luke 2:29–35 CSB
29 Now, Master, you can dismiss your servant in peace, as you promised. 30 For my eyes have seen your salvation. 31 You have prepared it in the presence of all peoples— 32 a light for revelation to the Gentiles and glory to your people Israel. 33 His father and mother were amazed at what was being said about him. 34 Then Simeon blessed them and told his mother Mary, “Indeed, this child is destined to cause the fall and rise of many in Israel and to be a sign that will be opposed— 35 and a sword will pierce your own soul—that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.”
Introduction: wrapped presents are unseen then joy is displayed when they are seen.
SETTING THE SCENE (Mary and Joseph see Jesus and do what is right)
Luke 2:22–23 CSB
22 And when the days of their purification according to the law of Moses were finished, they brought him up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord 23 (just as it is written in the law of the Lord, Every firstborn male will be dedicated to the Lord)
Leviticus 12:1–4 CSB
1 The Lord spoke to Moses: 2 “Tell the Israelites: When a woman becomes pregnant and gives birth to a male child, she will be unclean seven days, as she is during the days of her menstrual impurity. 3 The flesh of his foreskin must be circumcised on the eighth day. 4 She will continue in purification from her bleeding for thirty-three days. She must not touch any holy thing or go into the sanctuary until completing her days of purification.
So this is what is being referenced in Luke. The purification was more for Mary than for baby Jesus or Joseph. After that period was over they took Jesus to Jerusalem
Jesus being dedicated.....
Exodus 13:2 CSB
2 “Consecrate every firstborn male to me, the firstborn from every womb among the Israelites, both man and domestic animal; it is mine.”
So we see the Jesus parents keeping the law from His birth. (the offering of turtledoves and pigeons were a sign of being poor. yet they still did what they could).
NOW SIMEON (Luke is getting us to see Jesus by not focusing on other things)
Not much is know about him.
Luke 2:25–26 CSB
25 There was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon. This man was righteous and devout, looking forward to Israel’s consolation, and the Holy Spirit was on him. 26 It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he saw the Lord’s Messiah.
There isn't much said about this man. We don't know much of his background. We don’t know where he came from or where he’s going. Pretty much what is said here is all that we know. And that’s the point. Luke intentionally is vague on some topics because they are not the focal point of what he is trying to communicate.
Luke isn’t trying to get us to to see Simeon.....he’s getting us to see Jesus.
SIMEON SEES JESUS
Luke 2:26–30 CSB
26 It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he saw the Lord’s Messiah. 27 Guided by the Spirit, he entered the temple. When the parents brought in the child Jesus to perform for him what was customary under the law, 28 Simeon took him up in his arms, praised God, and said, 29 Now, Master, you can dismiss your servant in peace, as you promised. 30 For my eyes have seen your salvation.
verse 26 and verse 29

Seeing Jesus is seeing it’s not about us
2 Corinthians 4:5 CSB
5 For we are not proclaiming ourselves but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus’s sake.
Seeing Jesus is seeing Us (and changes us)
Matthew 16:18 CSB
18 And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overpower it.
