1 Peter 1
Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, since it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.”
This passage gives us a few calls to action. Through these we can find that we will become strengthened in our walk with God.
The first call to action is to prepare our minds for action and being sober minded. The thought of preparing your mind for action is an interesting one, there is much that we are called to do throughout the Bible and we can prepare our minds for it. Think about it this way, when our minds are so ingrained with the Bible we will tend to do what we should over going in the direction of sin. Or when we have the excuse in our mind that we don’t know enough about the Bible to share our faith. With that we can have two responses, first is to learn more about the Bible, second it to get over that excuse because if you yourself are saved you know enough to share. Preparing our minds for action helps is to not sin, it helps us in our personal evangelism, and it also helps us defend our faith. There are so many times where someone says they do not believe the Bible for xyz reasons when those reasons are not even in the Bible. If I did not know the Bible well I might have been hopeless in these situations but rather I could minister in them.
The second call to action is to not conform to our old self. This is a call to not live in the way of the world but rather to live set apart lives. It is easy to see that the world is not going the way that God wants us to go so we should avoid the way of our former ignorance and follow God in all things.
The last call to action that I want to look at today in this passage is to be holy in all our conduct. This goes with the last call because it is basically the inverse of it. We serve a holy God and because of this we to should be holy, set apart.
Christian prepare for action. Prepare your mind and prepare your life. Study God’s word and and live a life that is set apart from the world.
