Immanuel......God with us......
Is there anyone in here today, that truly knows that God is with you, and with me....with all of us...
even the ones not in the house today....God is with them......TALK,PREACH....(behind prison walls, hospitals)
our God is omnipresent.....everywhere at all times....
I can hear that song from the movie, First Sunday.....I can feel the presence of the Lord.....TALK, PREACH.....
We not can hear Him all of the time, but if you truly know Him, you should know that He with you all of the time....
but people forget that so quickly and have a tendency to turn away from Him, when they can not hear HIm or feel him...
Is own chosen people, not all, turned from Him when He stopped speaking....
What you talking about preacher?
If you have opened you bible or even studied....we know that God was silent for 400 yrs....
between the last book of the old testament, Malachi and the first book of the new testament Matthew.....God was silent
There is no scripture where God says “I will be silent for 400 years”. However, with the final verse of the book of Malachi, the Hebrew Scriptures ended; and from then on, God was silent. For 400 years, not a single word from the Lord went out to His people. Malachi 2:17 may give us a clue as to why God was silent.
Malachi 2:17 “You have wearied the Lord with your words; “Yet you say, “In what way have we wearied Him?” In that you say, “Everyone who does evil Is good in the sight of the Lord, And He delights in them,” Or, “Where is the God of justice?””
TALK, PREACH....
God is our Father, and as parents we should understand that sometimes, you get tired of talking....
and God had been talking since the beginning.....TALK,PREACH
after all that had been done for them the still needed proof....
lets call the roll....10 plagues in egypt....water from a rock,.....manna from heaven.....
the battles he won for them....
the words of the prophets.....
Isaiah gave them the best news ever....
Isaiah 7:14 “Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.”
TALK,PREACH....
So now, in 400 yrs of silence and now they under Persian rule....
God has told them how to get redeemed but they must have forgotten the words of the prophets and forgot how to repent....
but what we can take away from this, is that when God takes His hand off you…things happen and they are not always good....TALK,PREACH...
So God is silent, they under persian rule and eventually under Roman authority.
And now God is about to fulfill the prophecy given by Isaiah all those years ago.
I can hear the old saints sing the song....I LOVE THE LORD, HE HEARD MY CRY......
God may have been silent but he was still there....
God had spoken thru judges, thru prophets and thru kings.....all fleshly man, all human....
but God took all three and rolled into one....
and as we get ready to look at the text, Matthew reminds us of the prophecy from over 700 years before once again but his inspired revelation fills the original statement out to its full intention. God is never so clearly present with his people as he is through his virgin-born Son, the Messiah of Israel. Jesus Christ...Jesus is Immanuel!
And we need to remember the true purpose of christmas...
a time for celebration
a time for salvation
a time for reconcilation....
Let’s walk....
Matthew 1:23 ““Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.””
we are celebrating that God is with us....
"In what sense then, is Christ GOD WITH US? Jesus is called Immanuel, or God with us, in his incarnation; God with us, by the influences of his Holy Spirit, in the holy sacrament, in the preaching of his word, in private prayer. And God with us, through every action of our life, that we begin, continue, and end in his name. He is God with us, to comfort, enlighten, protect, and defend us, in every time of temptation and trial, in the hour of death, in the day of judgment; and God with us and in us, and we with and in him, to all eternity." (Clarke)
TALK, PREACH.....
Jon Courson’s Application Commentary Chapter 1
This name Emmanuel is a descriptive title of the earthly ministry of Jesus Christ—God with us
TALK, PREACH.....
we get excited about christmas parties and so on but we need to be celebrating that God is with us.....
Next we need to realize that by God with us, is a time of salavation.....
Immauel....
It shows how low God bent down to save man; He added the nature of one of His own creatures to His own divine nature, accepting the weaknesses, frailties and dependency that the creature experiences
TALK,PREACH....
He became us to help us ....
Hebrews 2:14–15 “Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, and release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.”
Hebrews 4:15–16 “For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”
Romans 8:3 “For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh,”
2 Corinthians 5:21 “For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.”
TALK,PREACH....
for those whom Christ saves, he saves from their sins; from the guilt of sin by the merit of his death, and from the power of sin by the Spirit of his grace. In saving them from sin, he saves them from wrath and the curse, and all misery, here and hereafter. Christ came to save his people, not in their sins, but from their sins; and so to redeem them from among men, to himself, who is separate from sinners
Immanuel....God with us
we need to celebrate this season that He is with us...
we need to know that with Him being with us, we can have salvation
lastly
With Him with us, we can be reconciled to Him....
Immanuel.....This title of Jesus refers to both His deity (God with us) and His identification and nearness to man (God with us).
even with our sinful nature, God wants us to be with him...
sin WAS, IS and SHALL be what keeps up us away from him...
but thru this prophesied child....we can be reconciled with HIm....Why?
because He is with us....Christ came to save his people, not in their sins, but from their sins; and so to redeem them from among men, to himself, who is separate from sinners
TALK,PREACH...
Christ came to save his people, not in their sins, but from their sins; and so to redeem them from among men, to himself, who is separate from sinners
so as we continue in this holiday season....
yes Jesus is the reason for the season....
but let’s remember His name Immanuel....God with us
and because of this; Christmas is not just a time of gift giving but a time of CELEBRATION because God is with us
a time of SALVATION because God is with us
and a time of RECONCILATION....because God is with....
church but it didn’t stop there.....that was just the beginning of the plan......TALK, PREACH, CLOSE...
