Biography of Simon (Peter)
Biography of Simon (Peter)
Peter, known as an apostle of Jesus Christ, one of the twelve disciples.
This Peter started life as a fisherman (Matt 4:18). Him and his brother Andrew fished for a living . He wasn’t the high class jew, he didn’t have “good” pedigree, he fished. He was a husband and a brother, he was a son in law, obviously a son but all we know is his dads name was Jonah. we know nothing of his mon and just his dads name. Peter was not only one of the first disciples called he was the first. The first called to be a fisher of men. Peter was an outspoken individual. Time and time again he is the first to talk, not only the first to talk but usually puts his foot in his mouth when he talks. In (Matt 16:22) Peter actually rebukes Jesus. Telling Jesus that jesus is wrong and he wont be crucified and raised from the dead. Which Jesus responds by calling him “Satan” and tells him to “get behind”, not the brightest guy ever it seems at times. Peter actually walks on water! (Matt 14:28) he asked Jesus and Jesus told him to come. We know the Peter let doubt take over and he sank, but but he is the only human in history other than Jesus to walk on water. Peter had faith and he was zealous.
Peter was the First of the disciples to identify Jesus as the Messiah! (Matt 16:16-19) which is when his name was changed to Peter which means stone. Peter was the first disciple to see the empty tomb. (Luke 24:1-12) he ran ahead of John. Remember he was zealous, passionate. Peter confirmed that Gentiles were being converted. (Acts 11:1-11) He also recieved a vision canceling the kosher laws. he recieved this vision three times. Peter was thick headed. but also the three times most likely coincide with Peters three denials and his reasurance. He is the only human author to speak about another authors writings being scripture. (2 peter 3:14-15) “The early church fathers are unanimous in claiming that Peter died in Rome, by crucifixion, during the persecution of Nero in AD 64. As for crucifixion upside down, that is also testified to, but the evidence is weaker for this particular form of crucifixion. The apocryphal Acts of Peter is the earliest reference to crucifixion of Peter upside down.”
“Most scholars today understand Mark’s gospel to be the first written among the four accounts. The early church historian Eusebius reports testimony from Papias that Mark wrote his account based on Peter’s teaching concerning Jesus. According to Papias: “Mark became Peter’s interpreter and wrote accurately all that he remembered, not, indeed, in order, of the things said or done by the Lord. For he had not heard the Lord, nor had he followed him, but later on, as I said, followed Peter, who used to give teaching as necessity demanded but not making, as it were, an arrangement of the Lord’s oracles, so that Mark did nothing wrong in thus writing down single points as he remembered them.””
