What Are Coping Strategies?

Coping deals with the adjustments we make in unusual or stressful situations

Coping is a process, not an event

Problem/Situation Solving Strategies

Emotional/Social Support Focused Strategies

Problem/Situation Solving Strategies: To-do lists, problem solving, switching jobs, establishing healthy boundaries, time management, feedback from friends.
Emotion Focused Strategies: Self-care- take a long bath, get your hair/nails/feet done, engage in a hobby, exercise, focus on a task, mindfulness, meditation, prayer, social support (friends/family).
Proactive Coping: Plan for circumstances. When we pre-plan we’re not caught off guard.
Injecting Christian Spirituality: Church Family, Prayer, God’s Word, God’s Spirit.
