Evangelism

Intro

Effective Evangelism is a question, not so much of methods as it is of loves. Our actions are rooted in our loves.
What do you love most in life?
Do you love your family? Then I am sure you make decisions based on your love for your family. Your actions will change. The way you spend money will change. The way you speak to them and about them will change.
Do you love your church? Then your decisions and actions will change in that way as well.
Do you love nice clothing? then the ways you spend your money and time will tell me that.
Do you love being recognized before men? then your actions will tell me that.
You show your love through your actions.
When it comes to evangelism, there are three primary loves that I think are vital to being effective in evangelism.

Main Body

Love God

Evangelism begins with loving God.

Luke 10:27 ESV
27 And he answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.”
All your heart
We love god with our heart when we love him with our desires. What does your heart desire?
All your soul
We love God with our soul when we practice spiritual disciplines
All your strength
Our actions
All your mind
Our thoughts, our study
We cannot love God without knowing Him and he has given us a marvelous way to know Him, His word!
Evangelism begins with loving God, because when we love God with all our heart soul strength and mind, it overflows into our actions. We begin to seek ways to honor him and glorify him! We can’t help but talk about Him!

Love the Gospel

Evangelism is also dependent on our love for the Gospel!
We must know the Gospel and love it! it is what saved us! We must be able to say with Paul in Romans 1:16-17
Romans 1:16–17 ESV
16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. 17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, “The righteous shall live by faith.”
The Gospel is the power to save! It reveals the righteousness of God!

Love the Lost

Why do we not share the Gospel? Is it primarily because of the presence of fear? Or is it because of an absence of love?
If you love someone enough, you will overcome your fear and share the good news of Christ with them. If you don’t, you won’t
1 John 4:18–19 ESV
18 There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love. 19 We love because he first loved us.
What does love look like?
Befriending lost people
Jesus was accused of being a friend of sinners (Luke 7:34)
Seeking out lost people
Being Polite - you can be correct and still be wrong
Caring for lost people
1 Thessalonians 2:7–8 ESV
7 But we were gentle among you, like a nursing mother taking care of her own children. 8 So, being affectionately desirous of you, we were ready to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own selves, because you had become very dear to us.
