Born to Die—Jesus’ purpose on this earth
It is a profound truth that Jesus was born to die.
Luke 4:18–19 NASB95
18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim release to the captives, And recovery of sight to the blind, To set free those who are oppressed, 19 To proclaim the favorable year of the Lord.”
The good news is that there is hope for you today because Jesus was born to die for you and me.
Jesus is in the business of total restoration.
Colossians 1:13–14 NASB95
For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
Romans 6:23 NASB95
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
2 Corinthians 5:17–21 NASB95
Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come. Now all these things are from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation, namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and He has committed to us the word of reconciliation. Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making an appeal through us; we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
It was your sins and mine that nailed Jesus on the cross.
1 Corinthians 1:18 NASB95
For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
Colossians 1:19–20 NASB95
For it was the Father’s good pleasure for all the fullness to dwell in Him, and through Him to reconcile all things to Himself, having made peace through the blood of His cross; through Him, I say, whether things on earth or things in heaven.
The whole Bible points to Jesus’ death.
He gave us the way out of God’s judgment of sin.
He demolished the chains of bondage.
But the story does not end at the cross.
Romans 8:2 NASB95
For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death.
Jesus wants your whole heart.
