Merry Christmas
To know Him series starting at the beginning of the year.
25 And behold, there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon, and this man was just and devout, waiting for the Consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him.
26 And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord’s Christ.
There was curtain qualities God look for when He decided to reveal Himself in His infancy.
Zechariah and Elizabeth, Mary and Jospeh. They all had hearts after God. They all lived lives though imperfect but lives that would honor God.
Simeon was a just and devout. He was good morally and religiously.
His testimony was good before man and God.
His life was characterized by his moral fortitude.
He conformed to Gods expectations and lived in a right relationship to God.
He feared God a d showed reverence to God . He took Gods promises seriously.
He wait for the consolation of Israel the comfort of Israel.
“The consolation of Israel, was the comfort of Israel by the coming of the Messiah.”
This refers to the consolation that would be brought about by the inauguration of the messianic age.
He was waiting for the One who would bring comfort to the nations.
God promised this comfort and renewed hope.
1 “Comfort, yes, comfort My people!” Says your God.
13 Sing, O heavens! Be joyful, O earth! And break out in singing, O mountains! For the Lord has comforted His people, And will have mercy on His afflicted.
3 For the Lord will comfort Zion, He will comfort all her waste places; He will make her wilderness like Eden, And her desert like the garden of the Lord; Joy and gladness will be found in it, Thanksgiving and the voice of melody.
9 Break forth into joy, sing together, You waste places of Jerusalem! For the Lord has comforted His people, He has redeemed Jerusalem.
His whole life was devoted to this moment.
Simeons claim to fame was just his patience and obedience to God. and His one promise that He will see the Messiah.
You know in a world where theres so many options. We like to exhaust all those options at once.
Like I want to go Church hoping I want to be in this church that church. But never really catching hold of any real vision
I want to go to that place and this place. But never maturing
Every week theres another new vision or path. But really its just you being spiritually ambitious
Allot of us don’t sit like Simeon and hold on to the one promise He’s giving us.
Like Jospeh you really don’t hear of Jospeh much after the Birth of Christ and him protecting and leading the family when Christ was at a young age. Mary yes Jospeh no.
His whole life was taking care of Christ and leading His family and then he disappears. He probably died. When Christ was young. But never the less Jospeh had one job and he executed it.
It says Enoch walked with God then he was not.
24 And Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God took him.
Simeon had an intense desire to see the Messiah. And The Holy Spirit granted him his request.
Amnon had an intense desire but it was for the wrong things . It was to the point where he literally for sick.
Have you ever waited on God for His perfect will?
Simeon is the sixth person in the infancy narratives to be indwelt by the Holy Spirit (John, 1:15; Mary, 1:35; Jesus, 1:35; Elizabeth, 1:41; Zechariah, 1:67)
He awaits God’s Messiah. For Simeon, “faith in Christ is the legitimate answer to the legitimate Jewish expectation.
27 So he came by the Spirit into the temple. And when the parents brought in the Child Jesus, to do for Him according to the custom of the law,
28 he took Him up in his arms and blessed God and said:
In the presence of Jesus, Simeon’s first response of faith is not to speak but to touch: “Simeon took him in his arms and praised God” (v. 28).
33 And Joseph and His mother marveled at those things which were spoken of Him.
Just imagine Joseph and Mary thinking this man lived his whole life waiting for our baby. So he can worship Him.
Not Just him but the very Messiah that the hero of the faith spoke about.
34 Then Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary His mother, “Behold, this Child is destined for the fall and rising of many in Israel, and for a sign which will be spoken against
Jesus will reveal those who have faith and those who do not have faith.
They are easily exposed those who didn’t have faith the Pharisees and Saccades. The ones who claimed they had faith really didn’t and the ones who where despised and told they didn't have faith really did.
The leaders/teachers didn’t have faith but the lay members did.
22 The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone.
14 He will be as a sanctuary, But a stone of stumbling and a rock of offense To both the houses of Israel, As a trap and a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
32 Why? Because they did not seek it by faith, but as it were, by the works of the law. For they stumbled at that stumbling stone.
33 As it is written: “Behold, I lay in Zion a stumbling stone and rock of offense, And whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.”
6 Therefore it is also contained in the Scripture, “Behold, I lay in Zion A chief cornerstone, elect, precious, And he who believes on Him will by no means be put to shame.”
7 Therefore, to you who believe, He is precious; but to those who are disobedient, “The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone,”
8 and “A stone of stumbling And a rock of offense.” They stumble, being disobedient to the word, to which they also were appointed.
35 (yes, a sword will pierce through your own soul also), that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.”
A sword will pierce through the soul of Mary because her Son would be rejected and despised and ultimately killed.
Just imagine if a child took the toy out of you childs hand and how you would feel.
Now imagine if people mocked your child bullied your child, rejected your child and ultimately had your child killed. the same child that came to save is the same child that was rejected by the ones He came to save.
