In all the paintings John is represented with an eagle, because he flew so high in the knowledge of God.
He was so loved for our Lord, that Jesus left in his charge the thing that he loves most in the earth, his Mother. Thanks to him we know that the testament of Jesus was to give Mary as our Mother, at the beginning of the Gospel Jesus teach us that God is our Father, and at the end of his life that Mary is our mother.
Saint John preserves this tradition, Saint Irenaeus of Lyon, was disciple of Saint Polycarp, and Polycarp of John, from this teaching we hear how Mary is the new Eve.
So, this disciple has to extraordinary gifts, he heard the heart of Jesus al the last supper and was in charge of his mother.
