Dead in Sin

Ephesians 2:1–3 NLT
Once you were dead because of your disobedience and your many sins. You used to live in sin, just like the rest of the world, obeying the devil—the commander of the powers in the unseen world. He is the spirit at work in the hearts of those who refuse to obey God. All of us used to live that way, following the passionate desires and inclinations of our sinful nature. By our very nature we were subject to God’s anger, just like everyone else.
Previously they had been dead in sin (Eph. 2:1); now they were dead to sin. The aorist in the verb died points to an action rather than a state: “we who died” rather than “we are dead”
Leon Morris

What kind of dark influences affected your life before Christ?

Dark desire

Ephesians 2:3 (NASB95)
Among them we too all formerly lived in the lusts of our flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest.

But God!

Ephesians 2:4 NIV
But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy,
Great love
Rich in mercy
