Romans 10:8-9 The word of faith, which we preach
This gospel message was from the beginning, even taught by Moses but has now been entrusted to the church.
This was the command of our Lord when he finished his work and assended to heaven (Matthew 28:19-20)
We are become ambassadors for Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17-21)
If this message has been committed to us than we better know the message we are to preach
We preach a completed gospel
We preach a completed gospel
Jesus has accomplished all that is needed for the salvation of sinful men
Jesus is the fulfillment of all that led up to the gospel being preached (Romans 10:4)
Jesus is the message that we preach (2 Corinthians 4:5)
God has brought the proclamation of the gospel near to us
The same God who created the world is now working to bring the gospel to all people (2 Corinthians 4:6)
The gospel is shining out into darkness for all who believe on him to have eternal life
Because Jesus has accomplished all that is necessary for salvation we are presented with a faith gospel rather than a works-based salvation.
We preach a faith gospel
We preach a faith gospel
Salvation is born out of our heart and out of our mouth not from our actions or righteousness
Verse 10 explains this faith gospel in two words: “believe” and “confess”
Believe is explained in verse 9 that we must accept the truth of Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection. Jesus is God and Savior
Confess is explained in verse 13 that we call out to Jesus in repentence and faith for salvation
The gospel is a message that has been carried from witness to witness proclaiming faith in Christ Jesus
This is not an empty faith but a faith based in truth
The apostles of the church were eye-witnesses of the events of the cross and the bodily resurrection of Jesus
We believe in their message that they received from God and imparted to us (1 Thessalonians 2:4-13)
Because Jesus has accompished all that is necessary and all that is needed is faith in him we can be guaranteed of its effectiveness in our lives.
We preach a sure gospel
We preach a sure gospel
It is not our faith that has power but the one in whom we have placed our faith, Jesus Christ and his work
There is no magic prayer or mantra but simply trusting in Christ from our heart
It is God who saves us, we do not save ourselves (Ephesians 2:8-10) We are his workmanship
We have a promise of salvation from a God who has shown himself faithful from creation until now
Verse 13- “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved”
The complete story of the Bible gives us confidence in the power of our Savior to save us from our fallen condition
