In His image

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. 7He came as a witness, to bear witness about the light, that all might believe through him. 8 He was not the light, but came to bear witness about the light.

9 The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world. 10 He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world did not know him. 11 He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him. 12 But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, 13 who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.

14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth

At this time of year, we have presents, we have Christmas decorations, Christmas greetings all for one man. Not just one man, not just an ordinary man, God become flesh, the flesh that he became was the flesh that He created, the flesh that was created in His own image. Like I mentioned a few weeks back in reading part of the Book of Revelation, John likes to take elements of the Old Testament and throw them in a blender, a blender where all the ingredients of Old and New come together to make something new and unexpected. John telegraphs the Book of Genesis, but he doesn;t just quote, he mixes and shows you God’s plan.
Genesis tells us this in Chapter 1, verses 26 & 27.

Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”

27  So God created man in his own image,

in the image of God he created him;

male and female he created them.

When the the prince of the power of the air tries to corrupt and darken, God shines a light on and shows the truth, God shows His glory. Rather than being descended from apes, we are created in His image. He came and became flesh, the flesh that was created in His image.
God’s plan, not only to show up once in a while in the form of a theophany (a temporary form of a man), he was born of a woman, like we were so that as He became the Son of God in flesh, we could become sons of God in the flesh also.
