Scripture Invitation:

As we prepare our hearts for God's Word, I summon your senses and invite your intellect to the book of Psalm 119:49-50.
It is there that The Holy Spirit has highlighted our context for our sermonic time together this morning.

Bible Passage:

Psalm 119:49–50 CSB
Remember your word to your servant; you have given me hope through it. This is my comfort in my affliction: Your promise has given me life.

Introduction:

Life is full of promises.
Sometimes, we make promises to others, and sometimes promises are made to us.
But what about the promises of God?
Have you ever found yourself in a place where you needed a reminder of God's promises in your life?
When the storms come and the struggles seem overwhelming, it's time to pull our receipts and remind God of what He has spoken over us.

Context

As we reflect on Psalm 119, it is important to note that it is the longest chapter in the Bible and focuses on the importance of God's Word in our lives.
In verses 49-50, the psalmist is reminding God of His promises and finding comfort in His Word during times of affliction.
This passage serves as a powerful reminder that we too can remind God of His promises and find comfort and life in His Word.

Imagine you're in a department store, and you make a purchase.
At the end, you're given a receipt as proof of your transaction.
Later on, if you encounter a problem with the purchase, you can return to the store with your receipt and remind the store of their promise to provide quality products and good customer service.
In the same way, we can pull our spiritual receipts and remind God of His promises when we are going through challenging times.
Today, we will explore three powerful truths that empower us to pull our receipts and remind God of His promises in our lives.

1. We must have the power of faith

Hebrews 11:1 tells us that faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
When we hold onto God's promises and speak them in faith, it releases supernatural power and reminds God of His faithfulness.

2. We must have the power of perseverance

James 1:12 reminds us that blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, when they have stood the test, they will receive the crown of life.
Perseverance is a key component in reminding God of His promises.
We must press in and hold on, even when circumstances seem contrary to what God has spoken.

3. We must have the power of prayer and declaration

Mark 11:24 teaches us that whatever we ask for in prayer, believe that we have received it, and it will be ours.
When we remind God of His promises through prayer and declaration, we are aligning our hearts with His will and inviting His power to work in our lives.

Closing

My brothers and sisters, it's time to pull our receipts and remind God of His promises.
What receipts am I pulling?
Im pulling Jeremiah 29:11 - "For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope."
Im pulling Psalm 37:4 - "Delight yourself in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart."
Im pulling Philippians 4:19 - "And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus."
Im pulling Romans 8:28 - "And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose."
Im pulling Psalm 91:14-16 - "Because he holds fast to me in love, I will deliver him; I will protect him, because he knows my name. When he calls to me, I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue him and honor him. With long life, I will satisfy him and show him my salvation."
Im pulling Matthew 7:7-8 - "Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks, it will be opened."
Im pulling 2 Corinthians 1:20 - "For all the promises of God find their Yes in him. That is why it is through him that we utter our Amen to God for his glory."
Im pulling Psalm 84:11 - "For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD bestows favor and honor. No good thing does he withhold from those who walk uprightly."
Im pulling Isaiah 40:31 - "But they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint."
Im pulling Isaiah 41:10 - "So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."
It's time to hold onto faith, persevere through difficult times, and pray and declare His Word over our lives.
God is faithful, and He will honor His promises.
So, I encourage you today to revisit those promises and remind God that you are holding Him accountable.
Watch as His power and provision flow into your life like never before.
