Didn't I tell you that if you believe, you will see the glory of God? John 11:40
As the Lord put this in my heart, I couldn’t wrap my head around what he was trying to tell me. As you may already know, the Lord works in mysterious ways.
Three people in this particular Chapter grab my attention. Lazarus, Mary, and Martha are these three siblings that we’re friends and disciples of Jesus, and they were people Jesus loved John 11:5
Many of you may not know that Lazarus became ill in this particular chapter. I’m unsure what he had, but it was critical.
Some of us may say that even the one that Jesus loved got sick.
I wondered what Lazarus was thinking; as he was one of many that walked with Jesus, he witnessed the miracles that Jesus had performed during his time here on earth. He might not have been too concerned or worried because he knew Jesus. He knew what he could do even from a distance.
At this time, Jesus wasn’t near them, so Mary and Martha sent a word to Jesus that said, “ Lord, the one you love is sick.”
They wanted Jesus to heal him, for he was near death.vs3,
These sisters did what they knew best they didn’t just call upon him. They sent him a direct message, as they knew who he was and what he could do. Come on now, as you know, we all call on Jesus when something is wrong.
How many of us know where he could be found and reach out to him in your time of need? I sure do! How many of us can relate to Mary and Martha?
Let me tell you about a moment in time when I called upon Jesus, and I was as confident that even as a sinner, Jesus would do something about my situation. I was satisfied that he would show up and show out when I called him. I was confident that if he wasn’t listening to me, even though in my confidence, doubt may have TOUCHED ME because he wasn’t responding promptly,
See, I can relate to their feelings. I could relate to the desperate sense of healing.
The hopeless feeling of calling on the Lord in my time of need on multiple occasions. Desperately desiring for a miracle to happen, knowing that he IS THE GREAT I AM.
And although I did not physically walk with Jesus, I knew and still know that he exists and still performs miracles. I, too, witnessed miracles in my upbringing.
But just in case I felt that he wasn’t hearing me out, I had a solution. I (we) all know he listens to someone closer to Jesus, and I was confident then that where there are two or more gathered in Jesus’ name, he would be in the midst of them. I know at that time, he would listen to them because they had that relationship with Jesus.
But guess what? During that storm, I felt he didn’t show up when I called him. :( Well, at least I thought he didn’t at the time, but now that I am grounded in the lord, I know that he did show up just on time. He didn’t perform the miracle that I wanted him to achieve at that moment, and It was hard for me to understand that it was God’s will, will be done, and not mine :( (ILIANA)
Jesus’ responded in verse 4. that this sickness is not unto death but for the glory of God so That the son of God MAY be glorified.
This verse just echos, THIS SICKNESS IS NOT UNTO DEATH BUT FOR THE GLORY OF GOD SO THAT THE SON OF GOD MAY BE GLORIFIED.
We tend to dismiss that WE TEND TO lose SITE OF GODS WILL, and All I (we) say I want is my baby to be healed and my brother, sister, father, mother, and grandparents. I NEED TO BE HEALED. Our emotions tend to get in the way of God’s will. We can’t understand God’s will but his will to be done. But his will be done and not ours. In his time
When the messenger was sent to Jesus, he waited. vs6( HE GOT YOUR MESSAGE). HE HEARD YOUR CRY!
That wasn’t the answer that many of us wouldn’t be expecting. As he had performed so many miracles from a distance, he did it in so and so’s life. So why not then? Why not now, you may ask yourself. Some of us read this story with these questions, but some live it right now as if it was us or it just might be us.
After two days, Jesus told the disciples vs. seven let us go back to Judea; I’m assuming the disciples weren’t aware of what was happening. They refreshed Jesus that in Judea they had tried to stone him, and you want to go back there?
The Lord replies to the disciples. OUR FRIEND LAZARUS HAS FALLEN ASLEEP BUT I’M GOING THERE TO WAKE HIM UP. I’m going to repeat. Our Friend Lazarus has fallen asleep, but I’m going there to wake him up. It didn’t matter what they tried to do to me. I have to wake Our friend.
Lazarus died, but Jesus referred to Lazarus as “asleep” and told the disciples he would wake him up. The disciples responded, “Lord, if he sleeps, he will get better,” clearly thinking of physical sleep.
See, he made it clear his friend was sleeping; He was going through a process. This sickness wasn’t going to be the death of him. DO YOU HEAR ME? As many may have thought, it would be the end of him.
Some of us don’t understand that there is a process through our circumstances. You might have to go through a rocky moment in your life, and you feel as if you are about to die, whether physically or mentally, or spiritually. YOU WILL NOT DIE. There’s just some part of you that sleep.
You will experience the Lord’s joy, and JESUS will wake you up during this process. Shake you up. Let you know that this is a process. There’s no way… that our Lord will ever bring us into any circumstances without walking with you. He carries you every step of the way. The Lord doesn’t give you more than you could bear. God is with you as a strong giant.
Maintain your eyes on the cross. Jesus knows our wants and griefs, and he cares, and he will answer you In his time. We need to learn to wait on the Lord for one day to the Lord is 1000 years and a thousand years are like one day 2 Peter 3:8
Sometimes certain situations put us in a difficult spot. Not understanding why and how. Or even thinking this might be the death of me.
Even Martha
Vs. 21 Marth said if thug hadst been here. My brother had not died.
Jesus replied, your brother will rise again. She said I know he will rise again in the resurrection on the last day?
vs25 Jesus said to her. I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies (physically), and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you think it?
No te dicho si tu crees veras la gloria de Dios. Didn't I tell you that if you believe, you will see the glory of God?
And as this stone was taken away. What is the rock in front of you? Jesus looked up and said, “Father, I thank you that you have heard me. I knew you always listen to me, but I told this to benefit the people standing here, that they may believe you sent me.
How many of us could thank him
In a loud voice, Lazarus comes out. Lazarus, come out. Take off those graves’ clothes and let him go!
I wondered if this was what Lazarus was feeling at the time or Mary or Martha? His feeling could have been everywhere. Their feelings could have been everywhere.
You tend to question, Where were you, my Lord?
How could you have let this happen?
Couldn’t you have prevented all this horrible pain and headache?
Are you just going to let me die, emotionally and mentally? Lord, what are you trying to show me.
And then there are those people who tend to mock you and say. Aren’t you the one that walks with God and looks at you now
Don’t you serve a GOD that performs all types of miracles, and your dying or loved one is sick, and the one you walk with is not here to save you?
The people outside of Lazarus’ cave declared him dead; the people around you may claim you were dead. Although we know who the resurrection is, our responsibility is to Glorify the Lord in all circumstances.
See yourself through GOD’s eyes, not those who surround you. Not those who question whom you serve.
Suppose Jesus had come and curred the sickness of Lazarus. He had done more than what he did for many. Suppose he had raised him to life when newly dead, no more than he had done for some. But he was delayed. He had the opportunity to do more for him than and for many now; on that note, God had gracious intentions even in previous days. Jesus, friends, were not out of his thoughts. When he heard of their distress, he wasted no time; however, deliverance in his time when God worked. The time and every time it's beautiful in its season.
God is with you like a muscular giant.
Please help me understand that this sickness is not unto death, for death is farewell to this world, but when you die in Christ, you live forever, for life here on earth is temporary, but you live forever when you die in Christ. Bible tells me in Romans 10:13 Whoever will call upon the name of the Lord will be saved.” I believe that we all called upon the Lord. in our time of need, and we all believe that Jesus will keep our loved ones.
