INTRODUCTION (.5/.5)
Collide! How’s everybody doing? So good to see you! Who’s excited for camp?… today we’ve got session 1… Can’t wait!… I’m Corey Hise, CP of our NN campus… cannot wait to see what God has in store for us today!
TENSION / THE HOOK (2.5/3)
What stands out most to y’all @ camp? Games/cabins/camp crushes/food/hospital visits/golf carts… what stands out most to me is how God moves at camp/81 saved/31 called to min/100s who grew mightily in faith… y’all camp is just built different…titling message: Built Different…know what I mean? MJ/TB12/me…extraordinary/exceptional/best
No matter what songs/who’s preaching/when or where/rain or shine, God always moves miraculously at camp
Ever wondered why? why is camp different? why does God always move mightily at camp but not all the time? does God’s presence always fall at camp but not anywhere else in my life? what compels God to move? at camp/in life
EXPOSITION (2/5)
In Matthew... Jesus has been walking town to town & a huge crowd is following him…& tons of them are asking Jesus to move/show miraculous sign/heal them… but for the majority of them, Jesus keeps walking…but then seemingly randomly, Jesus would stop… he’d stop/heal 1 here/walk/stop/heal 1 there…I can imagine the crowd asking the same ? we are… what caused him to stop/why’s he moving in their life/what’s different for them/what compelled Jesus to stop & heal them? But it’s not until one of my fav stories, that we finally get our answer…
Today-gonna show you the 2 essentials you must have to compel God to move in your life...not just at camp-everyday

Expectant Faith (11.5/16.5)

Mt 8:5-10, 13: When Jesus had entered Capernaum, a centurion came to him, asking for help. “Lord,” he said, “my servant lies at home paralyzed, suffering terribly.” Jesus said to him, “Shall I come and heal him?” The centurion replied, “Lord, I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed. For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and that one, ‘Come,’ and he comes. I say to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.” When Jesus heard this, he was amazed and said to those following him, “Truly I tell you, I have not found anyone in Israel with such great faith.”…Then Jesus said to the centurion, “Go! Let it be done just as you believed it would.” And his servant was healed at that moment.
Amazing story…Jesus stops for centurion/heals servant from far away! Incredible! Hes so powerful/loving/amazing… but I don’t want you to miss this… this story isn’t @ Jesus/his power/strength/love/magnificence, its @ the centurion
Climax of story is not the healing… the healing is an afterthought in the story… the focus of the story is where Jesus says v.10b: …Truly I tell you, I have not found anyone in Israel with such great faith.
Amazing compliment to receive…& it actually gives us our 1st essential- if you want to compel God to move in your life/school/family/relationships, you must be like the centurion- you must have Expectant Faith/attitude/spirit…
Dance Story…this is faith- in wrong person, but this is faith… faith is a risk… but we put our faith in Jesus- who will not drop us/let us go…this is faith centurion has…he believes/expects Jesus to heal! Mt 8:8b: …just say the word, and my servant will be healed…no doubt in his mind, Jesus is going to heal his servant… guys, this is big/real faith
Heb 11:1 RGT: …faith is the confidence of things hoped for, and the evidence of things not seen.
Faith is not just believing God is real/hoping for the best/going to church & reading bible… no, faith is putting your complete trust in Jesus… knowing w/ confidence/beyond a shadow of a doubt he loves/protects/provides/cares for you/moves in your life… & that is why God responds/why God moves so mightily at camp bc we expect/believe it!
With no hesitation, I know that God is going to move at camp this year (it’s why you need to be there!)… he will save/transform/heal/restore/move & I believe it with my whole heart & so do you!
Here’s how I know- God responds to big faith… when we make bold requests of God/pray dangerous prayers/ expect the unexpected, he loves to come through…he’s the God of the answered prayer/impossible/breakthrough/ miraculous/extraordinary & he wants to move in your life!
He has power/healing/purpose/miracles/blessings/grace that he’s waiting to pour out over your life, but we must have faith/expect him to move!…God’s already moving/active…power already there…our faith just invites it into our life
Let me challenge you…if you’re tired of experiencing God once a year/watching others experience revival/coming to church bc supposed to/living a double life @ school/church…I challenge you today, make a bold request of God…ask him to transform family/heal body/save friends/change heart/make pure again/free from addiction & believe it! It may not look like you expect it to but expect God to move! Bc expectant faith unlocks God’s miraculous power in our life
Bc ultimately, we know he will move, bc he is faithful…& my faith is in his faithfulness, not my faithfulness…

A Humble Heart (10/26.5)

But that’s where many of us get tripped up… we have big faith in God, but at some point, our faith shifts to ourselves… we put our faith in our own faithfulness/good choices/church attendance/bible reading/knowledge…
Like we go to camp with faith God will move, but we get back & think it’s our turn again to prove how good we are & then we don’t see God move again… he moves once a year at camp & that’s all…
Here’s good news- doesn’t have to be that way…you can experience camp every day/power of God daily just like the centurion…bc centurion didn’t just have expectant faith, he secondly & just as importantly, had A Humble Heart…
Mt 8:8a: “Lord, I do not deserve to have you come under my roof.”… this is an astonishing quote, here’s why- this man was a centurion, he was like a captain in the Roman army… he commanded 100 troops/very prominent in society/well-respected/high-class… & he walks up to a Jewish man/considered nothing compared to him… calls him Lord… he recognizes Jesus not just as an equal, but as someone of far greater authority than himself…
This is humility…humility is realizing just how broken/sinful/unworthy you are before God… not trying to prove how important/religious/faithful you are… its realizing how much you need God/cross… humility says I can’t do this on my own/unworthy/need you Lord/not @ me… pride says I got this/figure it out/don’t need anybody/good enough
Muhammad Ali Story…that’s pride…gives us bloated view of ourself/diminished view of God…you’ll never compel God to move w/ a heart of pride…humility is vital to experiencing God…if so preoccupied w ourself/image/goodness/ reputation, we will miss what God wants to do in/through us… if expectant faith unlocks God’s miraculous power in our life, humility opens the door and invites it in…bc humility finally lifts our eyes off of our self & onto Jesus
That’s something I love @ camp- everybody opens up…might take a day/2, but everyone opens up @ their pain/sin/ struggles/addictions… there’s this intense humility that comes over us… we start to examine our lives & fathom just how broken/messed up/unholy we are & just how holy/perfect/righteous/majestic/kind Jesus is
& it’s in this posture where we realize that we really need God…like not just to be happy/joyful/peaceful… we realize how w/o Jesus we’re nothing/we have no hope/we are desperate for him…
You see that’s humility…where you humble yourself before God/posture your heart in a state of surrender & submission before God… & it’s then, in that tender moment, when we have expectant faith that God will move & a humble heart that we need God to move, that he moves/does a mighty work
Bc here’s the truth- A humble heart full of expectant faith compels God to move… so let me ask you, what’s holding you back from experiencing a move of God today? Is it a humble heart: is there sin in your life? angry/greedy/hateful/ disrespectful to parents/selfish/lazy/lustful/addicted/prideful? Is it expectant faith: are you doubting he can move? doesn’t love you/too broken/too messed up/family too far gone? Look whatever it is… you can walk out of here in freedom today! Jesus has already won victory over your pride/doubt/shame/sin/addiction…live in faith/humility today
APPLICATION (2.5/29)
As I close, here’s what I want to let y’all know…that actually can happen today, doesn’t just have to happen at camp… if you have expectant faith/humble heart- God will move… here’s why…
God wants to moveloves you so much- he doesn’t want to move in your life once a year, he wants to move in your life every single day… so let me ask you, will you let him? Will you invite him to move in your life today? Will you have faith that God will move & humble yourself before him? Will you prepare yourself for a big move of God?
If so, preparing yourself to experience God only takes 2 action-steps & I wanna challenge you to try both every day until camp… 1) Prayer- praying faith-filled prayer…praising him/expressing dependence on God/declaring your expectant faith that he will move mightily…2) Confession- sitting before God, repenting, & asking for forgiveness & humbling yourself before Him (confession is not to be saved- for CF to clear the airways between you & God)…
It’s in this space where I not only prepare for God to move but begin to experience his transforming power in my life
CONCLUSION (5/34)
As we finish…everybody stand…looking ahead to camp…wanted to take a moment in prayer/confession…nobody loud/moving…want us to be still/quiet before God…w/ heads bowed/eyes closed… idk what sins you’re struggling w right now- may be pride/doubt/lust/hateful thoughts/selfishness, but I know that if you humble yourself before Jesus, he will meet you right here…you can walk in freedom today… so if anybody in room (already CF) needs to humble themselves before God right now, love to pray over you… put hand up… Pray (praise/expectant faith/humble/ confession/end victoriously)…Amen
Now, for some of you today- you’ve never put any faith in Jesus/never humbled yourself before him and asked for his forgiveness at all…here to tell you today that Jesus left heaven/came to this earth/lived a perfect life/died on the cross so that you might be forgiven of your sin…raised to life so you could experience life/purpose/eternity w him…right now, you can choose to receive his forgiveness
If you’ve never given your heart to Jesus/surrendered to him/began relationship with him, I want to invite you, once & for all, give your life to Jesus today/come home/say yes to Jesus today/be forgiven of your sins/be brand new today
If that’s you/ready to give your life to Jesus, pray this prayer with me from bottom of your heart: Salvation Prayer
Congrats/best decision of life/child of God/nothing will take you from him…if you just prayed that prayer to become CF, I want to invite you right now, on count of 3, shoot your hand up & we’re going to run you a gift!… 1,2,3, shoot em up! (celebrate)…C’mon y’all, lets finish today celebrating all that God has done!
KNOW (BOTTOM LINE): A humble heart full of expectant faith compels God to move.
DO: Prepare their hearts for God to move through prayer and confession.
FEEL: Humbled, challenged, inspired.
