whats the point of a wall?
Strange Orders
Strange Orders
9 acre city
double wall on a hill 12 feet each
even with good siege engines it would be difficult to manage
even with a well trained army it would be hard to break through
God does not fight battles the way you and I do
God orders perfect numbers
God’s presence carried before them
the commander of the mightiest army there ever was, the army of the Lord himself, doesn’t ask for great tactics and strength
he calls for the people to show the world their God for a whole week
Unusual conquerors
Unusual conquerors
on the seventh day Joshua gives the command that he knows will bring down the wall
he doesn’t just say scream and conquer and do what you will
there is something important about the way that the Israelite are called to take people over
you devote the people to destruction- people that are the rejection of God manifest
people that have seen God and heard of him but refuse to turn to him
none of this conquering is to be about Israel’s own greed
they take the promised land because God leads them there
not to satisfy desires for wealth and power
Application
Application
we get to be more than conquerors as Christians
everything has been overcome for the love we ought to have
but we have to be certain that all of it is about God and not me
that he is the one going before me
the impossible can be done
but not if I’m working for my self
