Intro- My prayer journal….my bible in a year…I once bought an elliptical that i didn’t use for like over a year…

The best way to end a year and begin another is to reflect and refocus.

Our main goal for each year should be to become more like Jesus by being with Him and doing the things He would do.

Rest.

Rest is essential to be who God made you to be.

We should work out of rest not for rest.

Hebrews
New Living Translation (Chapter 4)
9 So there is a special rest still waiting for the people of God. 10 For all who have entered into God’s rest have rested from their labors, just as God did after creating the world. 11 So let us do our best to enter that rest. But if we disobey God, as the people of Israel did, we will fall.
Exodus
The New International Version (Chapter 20)
8 “Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns. 11 For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.

Reflect/remember

Remember is used 352 times in the scriptures. When its variants are counted, that number jumps to more than 550. The root of remember is to keep in mind or to be mindful.

He need to remember God’s track record and learn from our mistakes.

Remember often can help us root ourselves to His righteousness.

We need to celebrate the victories and acknowledge the losses.

Psalm
The New International Version (Psalm 77)
11 I will remember the deeds of the LORD;
yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago.
12 I will consider all your works
and meditate on all your mighty deeds.”

Realign

We need to realign our lives to come into alignment with Christ.

Ephesians
The New International Version (Chapter 4)
21 when you heard about Christ and were taught in him in accordance with the truth that is in Jesus. 22 You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; 23 to be made new in the attitude of your minds; 24 and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.
Matthew
New Living Translation (Chapter 18)
8 So if your hand or foot causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It’s better to enter eternal life with only one hand or one foot than to be thrown into eternal fire with both of your hands and feet. 9 And if your eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It’s better to enter eternal life with only one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into the fire of hell.

Recommit

We need to recommit ourselves to become who God created us to be.

New Living Translation (Psalm 37)
5 Commit everything you do to the LORD.
Trust him, and he will help you.
