"I’M COMING BACK ANOTHER WAY"
John 9:1–7
“And as Jesus passed by, he saw a man which was blind from his birth. And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind? Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him. I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work. As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world. When he had thus spoken, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and he anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay, And said unto him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam, (which is by interpretation, Sent.) He went his way therefore, and washed, and came seeing.”
Intro
John does not record many of the words and works of Jesus which are recorded in the Synoptic gospels but he does record many of the words and works of Jesus which are not recorded in the Synoptic gospels.
Matthew wrote to the Jews, presenting Christ as their King.
Mark wrote to the Romans, presenting Christ as God’s Servant
Luke wrote to the Greeks, presenting Jesus as the perfect man.
John wrote to unbelievers, presenting Jesus as the divine Son of God.
John’s gospel through signs and sermons, declares that Jesus Christ is “the Son of God” (not “a son of God”), “the Son of God” in a sense that makes Him to be “God the Son,” a person equal with God.
John’s Gospel as witnesses to Christ’s deity show how a person is saved: through the Word and show the results of salvation: satisfaction
Our Lord performed miracles in order to meet human needs. But He also used those miracles as a “launching pad” for a message conveying spiritual truth. Finally, His miracles were His “credentials” to prove that He was indeed the Messiah.

This chapter presents the sixth of seven special miracles recorded in John’s Gospel as witnesses to Christ’s deity.
The first three of these seven miracles point to the PROCESS of salvation while the last four of these miracles speaks to the PROCEEDS from salvation.
Process of salvation, involves receiving the Word Jn 2
Process of salvation, involves having Faith Jn 4
Process of salvation involves obtaining Grace Jn 5
The proceeds of salvation is having Sufficiency Jn 6
The proceeds of salvation is having Peace Jn 6
The Proceeds of salvation is having Sight Jn 9
The Proceeds of salvation is having Life Jn 11

THE DEVIL WANTS YOU TO COME BACK THE SAME WAY YOU LEFT
Mark 5:5 (NKJV)
And always, night and day, he was in the mountains and in the tombs, crying out and cutting himself with stones.

Mark 5:15 (NKJV)
Then they came to Jesus, and saw the one who had been demon-possessed and had the legion, sitting and clothed and in his right mind. And they were afraid.

I’d like the old hymn of the church:
1 I heard the voice of Jesus say,
“Come unto Me and rest;
lay down, thou weary one, lay down
thy head upon My breast.”
I came to Jesus as I was,
so weary, worn, and sad;
I found in Him a resting place,
and He has made me glad.
2 I heard the voice of Jesus say,
“Behold, I freely give
the living water, thirsty one;
stoop down, and drink, and live.”
I came to Jesus, and I drank
of that life-giving stream;
my thirst was quenched, my soul revived,
and now I live in Him.
I’M COMING BACK ANOTHER WAY"
I. HE WAS STANDING IN THE WAY OF THE LORD
v1 Now as Jesus passed by, He saw a man who was blind from birth.
He was standing in the way, He had never experienced the beauties of this world. He had never seen the sun rise or set. He had never seen the beauty of a rose or the smile on a child’s face. I’m sure that he often wondered how it would be to see as others did.
2 BLIND MEN were CURED because they were in the way as Jesus passed by. Matt 20:30
LEVI was CALLED because he was in the way as Jesus "passed by" Mark 2:14
10 LEPERS were CLEANSED because they were in the way when Jesus passed by. Luke 17:11
Stand Way…
THE DEVIL HAS BEEN WORKING OVERTIME TRYING TO GET YOU OUT OF THE WAY.

STAY IN THE WAY OF THE LORD
Acts 11:26 (NKJV)
And when he had found him, he brought him to Antioch. So it was that for a whole year they assembled with the church and taught a great many people. And the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch.
Acts 9:2 (NKJV)
and asked letters from him to the synagogues of Damascus, so that if he found any who were of the Way, whether men or women, he might bring them bound to Jerusalem.

II. HE WAS SITUATED IN THE WILL OF THE LORD
v 2 And His disciples asked Him, saying, "Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?"
The Disciples Are Under The Impression A Person's WOES Are Associated With A Person's WRONGS.
“Jesus … saw a man which was blind from … birth” (9:1). The word “saw” means “to perceive mentally.” In other words, He did not merely give a cursory glance as He passed; He saw something tragic. The disciples only glanced at the poor man and remarked, judgmentally, that he was receiving the due reward of his sins, or at any rate, that of his parents.
The disciples did not look at the man as an object of mercy but rather as a subject for a theological discussion. It is much easier to discuss an abstract subject like “sin” than it is to minister to a concrete need in the life of a person. The disciples were sure that the man’s congenital blindness was caused by sin, either his own or his parents’, but Jesus disagreed with them.
When the disciples suggested this man might have sinned before he was born, they were re-echoing the teaching of their times. They wondered if this man were being punished by God for something done during a former sojourn on earth.
Exodus 20:5 (NKJV)
"you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations
Your Woes Are Not Necessarily About Your Wrong...It May Be About His Will!
I. HE WAS STANDING IN THE WAY OF THE LORD.
II. HE WAS SITUATED IN THE WILL OF THE LORD.
III. HE WAS SANCTIFIED FOR THE WORK OF THE LORD
v3 Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.
John Piper said, The cause of this man’s blindness is that God intended to display his work in the man.
It is interesting to note how Jesus reacted to the needs of the man and to the questions of the disciples. Jesus came to do a work in this man’s life and provide for our needs as well. In these verses Jesus reveals what He has come to earth to do. Notice:
A. His Motive-The disciples thought in much the same way as many of the Jews in that day. When they saw someone taken in an infirmity, it was believed that some sin had been committed to cause this problem. Jesus reminded them that this man’s condition wasn’t the result of individual sin, but of man’s fallen nature. This man would be healed to glorify God and manifest His works.
B. His Mission (4–5)I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work. As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.
Jesus had come with a mission to fulfill. He had not come simply to walk among men teaching the Scriptures, healing the sick, and comforting the weary; He had come to bring light to a dark world, V.5, delivering men from the bondage of sin.
▪ Already His eyes were fixed on Calvary. He wanted the disciples to see the eternal work that was being done. Jesus came to offer Himself as a sacrifice for the sins of men. He had come to open the eyes of this blind man and all who were blinded by sin.
▪ Aren’t you glad that Jesus’ mission wasn’t just to meet the physical needs of the Jews who were alive in His day? He came for you and me as well. He could see, down through the ages of time, that we would be born in sin needing a Savior! Because of Jesus I have hope today. Because of what He did on the cross, I have been redeemed. I know this world rejects the cross and its message, but without the cross we have no hope.
Their is Glory after this...
I. HE WAS STANDING IN THE WAY OF THE LORD.
II. HE WAS SITUATED IN THE WILL OF THE LORD.
III. HE WAS SANCTIFIED FOR THE WORKS THE LORD.
IV. HE WAS SENT TO GO WASH BY THE LORD.
11 He answered and said, “A Man called Jesus made clay and anointed my eyes and said to me, ‘Go to the pool of Siloam and wash.’ So I went and washed, and I received sight.”
Sometimes You Have To Participate In Your Own Deliverance..
No mention is made concerning how he went or if his friends helped him. The simple facts are stated: The commands to “go” and “wash”; the obedience, “he went his way therefore, and washed”; and the miraculous result, “and came seeing.”
8 Therefore the neighbors and those who previously had seen that he was blind said, “Is not this he who sat and begged?”
9 Some said, “This is he.” Others said, “He is like him.” He said, “I am he.”
10 Therefore they said to him, “How were your eyes opened?”
18 But the Jews did not believe concerning him, that he had been blind, and received his sight, until they called the parents of him that had received his sight.
19 And they asked them, saying, Is this your son, who ye say was born blind? how then doth he now see?
20 His parents answered them and said, We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind:
21 But by what means he now seeth, we know not; or who hath opened his eyes, we know not: he is of age; ask him: he shall speak for himself.
22 These words spake his parents, because they feared the Jews: for the Jews had agreed already, that if any man did confess that he was Christ, he should be put out of the synagogue.
23 Therefore said his parents, He is of age; ask him.
24 Then again called they the man that was blind, and said unto him, Give God the praise: we know that this man is a sinner.
25 He answered and said, Whether he be a sinner or no, I know not: one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see.
