Sin is Condemned
Sin is Condemned
5th Sunday:
Baptism at the End
Communion
This message will be the final message of the names of Jesus
After we talk a bit about Prayer and fasting next week
January 10-31st
Holy Spirit
So excited for this year and what God has for us
Communion every month
I encourage you to fast something coming up this next month
There is a whole lot of names used to describe Jesus:
Touched on it briefly at our Christmas eve service but want to go more in depth
Jesus in the Book of Revelation is called by this name 29 times
First Mention of Jesus being Lamb:
7 He was oppressed and He was afflicted,
Yet He opened not His mouth;
He was led as a lamb to the slaughter,
And as a sheep before its shearers is silent,
So He opened not His mouth.
For us to understand the significance:
Adam and Eve
8 And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden.
9 Then the Lord God called to Adam and said to him, “Where are you?”
10 So he said, “I heard Your voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself.”
Sin causes us to go into hiding from God
Ultimately to deny God’s existence is the furthest form of hiding from Him you can be
I don’t even choose to acknowledge your presence
Since the first fall of man
Sin has put the human race into hiding from God
Hiding gets exhausting
People create all sort of ways of masking the pain of that separation
Sin is never satisfied because there is no end to it (What we’re seeing in society)
The CURSE comes upon the earth and Adam and Eve hide
Genesis 3:21 (KJV)
Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them.
An animal has to die to cover them up
Fast foreword to exodus where we see the institution of sacrifice to Isreal:
This is the type and shadow of the things to come
3 Speak to all the congregation of Israel, saying: ‘On the tenth of this month every man shall take for himself a lamb, according to the house of his father, a lamb for a household.
Requirements for the Lamb:
5 Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year. You may take it from the sheep or from the goats.
12 ‘For I will pass through the land of Egypt on that night, and will strike all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the Lord. 13 Now the blood shall be a sign for you on the houses where you are. And when I see the blood, I will pass over you; and the plague shall not be on you to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt.
TO COMEMORATE THIS EVENT:
The Passover feast and still is a main Jewish holidays
Celebration in remembrance of God’s deliverance of the Israelites from bondage in Egypt
Passover Seder
This became a daily offering in the Temple
42 This shall be a continual burnt offering throughout your generations at the door of the tabernacle of meeting before the Lord, where I will meet you to speak with you.
Every day was a constant reminder of the need for a Savior a Messiah
It was meant to point people to the coming of Christ to the earth
To be sacrificed on the cross once and for all for sin
Everyday it was a constant reminder
Only priests could meet with God and speak to Him
You could only hear it through another person
What I value the most in my life is the Word of God and when He speaks through His Word
I know that when he speaks it leads to life for me
Day in and day out for thousands of years its the same thing:
Then along comes JESUS
29 The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!
In a world that without sacrifice the only thing that stops in is death
23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
The only payday that comes from a life of sin and eternal separation from God:
Because of our sin, we are separated from God, and we stand guilty before Him.But Jesus offers us the free gift by his blood
Jesus had to come as a man so he could die and shed his blood on calvary
In a world that we all owe a debt we couldn’t pay
God offers us the free gift of His son
Instead of us offering a continual sacrifice to God for our sin:
Jesus became our once and for all propitiation for sin
2 And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world.
The wrath of God was poured out on Jesus for the World
If we believe in Him by Faith we’re saved
Now when God looks at you he doesn’t see your sin or what you’ve done:
He now just sees the blood of Jesus covering our sin
3 For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh,
Communion:
Is simply a time for us to remember
The awesome price that was paid for us to be in right standing with God
A crazy part of the crucifixion account is that Jesus was sacrificed at the same time the evening sacrifice would have been offered in the temple
And when Jesus spoke the word it is finished, that separated the common man to the holy of holies where the presence of God resided was torn in two
Now because of Jesus he can speak to us
When taking communion:
Paul offers instructions to the church on how they should receive communion
27 Therefore whoever eats this bread or drinks this cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. 28 But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup. 29 For he who eats and drinks in an unworthy manner eats and drinks judgment to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body. 30 For this reason many are weak and sick among you, and many sleep. 31 For if we would judge ourselves, we would not be judged. 32 But when we are judged, we are chastened by the Lord, that we may not be condemned with the world.
Why I want to take communion more than 5 times a year
23 For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you: that the Lord Jesus on the same night in which He was betrayed took bread; 24 and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” 25 In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.”
26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death till He comes.
13 Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”), 14 that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.
18 knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, 19 but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot. 20 He indeed was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you 21 who through Him believe in God, who raised Him from the dead and gave Him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God.
