Romans 11:25–27 KJV
25 For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in. 26 And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob: 27 For this is my covenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins.
25 Romans 11:25 “25 For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in.”
For by Paul is the explanation for what just came before it
to the primarily Gentile church in Rome (brethren)
mystery: something that was previously hidden and is now revealed and when you see it, now it’s easy to see
the partial hardening has happened to Israel
until means it is not permanent
what’s the until? the fullness of the Gentiles come in. That God has hardened most in Israel that the Gentiles might get in is the mystery
Paul didn’t want them to think they had figured everything out because they were so smart and God had
the fullness of the Gentiles (until the last one of the Gentile believers)
26 Romans 11:26 “26 And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob:”
“all of Israel” this doesn’t mean every member of ethnic Israel, every Jew alive; all here is hyperbole. Think of whatever event you may have went to and there were so many people there in relation to where you were, you thought to yourself “All of Greeneville must be here” (a week past Christmas and I can say that driving by Walmart on the 23rd and I kinda had that thought myself). We don’t literally think every human in Greeneville is there, that’s a figure of speech. I’ll talk more about “all” in a bit.
At the end of the age, there will be a great revival and 144,000 (whether great or exact number) Jews will come to faith in Christ
Paul points out this isn’t a new thing, in the Bible from early on
Isaiah 59:20 “20 And the Redeemer shall come to Zion, and unto them that turn from transgression in Jacob, saith the LORD.”
Paul quotes and says “out of Sion”; this sounds like the heavenly Jerusalem
27 Romans 11:27 “27 For this is my covenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins.”
Isaiah 59:21 “21 As for me, this is my covenant with them, saith the LORD; My spirit that is upon thee, and my words which I have put in thy mouth, shall not depart out of thy mouth, nor out of the mouth of thy seed, nor out of the mouth of thy seed’s seed, saith the LORD, from henceforth and for ever.”
Jeremiah 31:33 “33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.”
Isaiah 27:9 “9 By this therefore shall the iniquity of Jacob be purged; and this is all the fruit to take away his sin; when he maketh all the stones of the altar as chalkstones that are beaten in sunder, the groves and images shall not stand up.”
Romans 11:28–32 KJV
28 As concerning the gospel, they are enemies for your sakes: but as touching the election, they are beloved for the fathers’ sakes. 29 For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance. 30 For as ye in times past have not believed God, yet have now obtained mercy through their unbelief: 31 Even so have these also now not believed, that through your mercy they also may obtain mercy. 32 For God hath concluded them all in unbelief, that he might have mercy upon all.
28 Romans 11:28 “28 As concerning the gospel, they are enemies for your sakes: but as touching the election, they are beloved for the fathers’ sakes.”
What does it mean to be an enemy of God? Rebellion and cursing and shaking your fist at God because of your situations or circumstances? Yes but not only. James 4:4 “4 Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.”
According to the gospel of Jesus Christ there is no neutral position. Everyone is either perishing or has been saved. Every human being is either living in the pardon of Christ or dying under the judgement of God for sin! If you are not saved you are lost
You may think to yourself “I’m just for me doing me and you doing you, none of that mess has anything to do with me.”
Romans 8:6–8 “6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. 7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. 8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.”
According to God’s choice of Israel beloved for the fathers’ sakes. Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
Genesis 12:1–3 “1 Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee: 2 And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: 3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.”
Deuteronomy 7:7–9 “7 The LORD did not set his love upon you, nor choose you, because ye were more in number than any people; for ye were the fewest of all people: 8 But because the LORD loved you, and because he would keep the oath which he had sworn unto your fathers, hath the LORD brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you out of the house of bondmen, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt. 9 Know therefore that the LORD thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations;”
29 Romans 11:29 “29 For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.”
For is the explanation
the same gifts, the table, the Law, the blessings, even Jesus the Messiah they rejected,
The calling is the application of those gifts.
Without repentance. The call of God he doesn’t take back. That changing of heart that God does as a person is drawn to faith. The choosing of true Israel as a people, and His church, He will not take back or change his mind. Stop short but imply the salvation of a soul
30 Romans 11:30 “30 For as ye in times past have not believed God, yet have now obtained mercy through their unbelief:”
You: believing Gentiles, who were lost were just as lost as unsaved Jews. Not even the baby sleeping in the crib is truly innocent unless covered by grace. Baby’s are liars. Vipers in diapers! Even you!
Because of their rejection Jesus has came and given His life that even unbelieving Gentiles may be saved
31 Romans 11:31 “31 Even so have these also now not believed, that through your mercy they also may obtain mercy.”
The hardened Jews who are lost, will be saved in the same way you were: faith in Jesus Christ as savior.
Romans 11:11–15 “11 I say then, Have they stumbled that they should fall? God forbid: but rather through their fall salvation is come unto the Gentiles, for to provoke them to jealousy. 12 Now if the fall of them be the riches of the world, and the diminishing of them the riches of the Gentiles; how much more their fulness? 13 For I speak to you Gentiles, inasmuch as I am the apostle of the Gentiles, I magnify mine office: 14 If by any means I may provoke to emulation them which are my flesh, and might save some of them. 15 For if the casting away of them be the reconciling of the world, what shall the receiving of them be, but life from the dead?”
32 Romans 11:32 “32 For God hath concluded them all in unbelief, that he might have mercy upon all.”
Paul has talked a lot about election, God’s choice.
Here is a good spot, as I said before, to remind everyone to read the Bible carefully and not naively. “All means all, and that’s all all means” except when it doesn’t. Read the Bible as it was meant to be read, in context!
John 4:39–42 “39 And many of the Samaritans of that city believed on him for the saying of the woman, which testified, He told me all that ever I did. 40 So when the Samaritans were come unto him, they besought him that he would tarry with them: and he abode there two days. 41 And many more believed because of his own word; 42 And said unto the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy saying: for we have heard him ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Saviour of the world.”
Universalism says God is love, and God loves everybody, and nobody God loves will go to hell.
All here is not every single person on the planet. All here doesn’t refer to all people without exception. There are vast numbers of believers that are obedient to God and saved by Jesus working to please the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Matthew 25:46 “46 And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.”
John 14:6 “6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”
Romans 11:33–36 KJV
33 O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out! 34 For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counsellor? 35 Or who hath first given to him, and it shall be recompensed unto him again? 36 For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen.
It is the truth that there is hope for Paul’s fellow Jews to be saved that leads him to his doxology of praise. Doxology: A form of words that offers praise to God, especially for his work of creation and redemption.
33 Romans 11:33 “33 O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!”
unsearchable reminds us of Job 42:1–6 “1 Then Job answered the LORD, and said, 2 I know that thou canst do every thing, and that no thought can be withholden from thee. 3 Who is he that hideth counsel without knowledge? therefore have I uttered that I understood not; things too wonderful for me, which I knew not. 4 Hear, I beseech thee, and I will speak: I will demand of thee, and declare thou unto me. 5 I have heard of thee by the hearing of the ear: but now mine eye seeth thee. 6 Wherefore I abhor myself, and repent in dust and ashes.”
36 Romans 11:36 “36 For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen.”
“There is not a square inch in the whole domain of our human existence over which Christ, who is Sovereign over all, does not cry, Mine!” - Abraham Kuyper
The Message of John 4. John the Baptist and Jesus (3:22–36)

What is at stake in the ministry of the Son is nothing less than the bringing of salvation to the world. Jesus is the one from heaven, come from the loving heart of God to the world to offer salvation to everyone who will believe in him. Believing in him brings eternal life, a rebirth into a new order by the Spirit, the personal reception of the supernatural, endless life of the kingdom of God.

Acts 17:4–28 “4 And some of them believed, and consorted with Paul and Silas; and of the devout Greeks a great multitude, and of the chief women not a few. 5 But the Jews which believed not, moved with envy, took unto them certain lewd fellows of the baser sort, and gathered a company, and set all the city on an uproar, and assaulted the house of Jason, and sought to bring them out to the people. 6 And when they found them not, they drew Jason and certain brethren unto the rulers of the city, crying, These that have turned the world upside down are come hither also; 7 Whom Jason hath received: and these all do contrary to the decrees of Caesar, saying that there is another king, one Jesus. 8 And they troubled the people and the rulers of the city, when they heard these things. 9 And when they had taken security of Jason, and of the other, they let them go. 10 And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea: who coming thither went into the synagogue of the Jews. 11 These we…”

Conclusion

In chapters 9-11 Paul has answered the objections and questions about the present hardening as well as the future for ethnic Israel, the Jews
Steve Lawson:
Rest: God is in control! God is sovereignly and providentially carrying us all to the consummation or the absolute completion of history and what God’s plan has been to shine His glory throughout all time and space
Realize: salvation is of the Lord; That God saves and not you. We are called to sew the seed but God himself is the one who gives the increase. Our desire to evangelize and share the gospel and do works of righteousness while we have breath should be increased when we know that we aren’t responsible for the outcome. The fact is that no one that has breath is too far gone for the Gospel to reach. If God could breath life into your dead heart by grace save you, He can do it for anyone!
Rejoice: If you are saved, God has given you life. Not just breath and physical life, but has sought you, and called you, and saved you! He has shown love for you that an enemy of God never should have known. He offers forgiveness for the sins you committed in the past, the sins you carry in the present, and the sins you’ll commit on the way to Heaven.
Repent: If you are hearing these truths, for the first or the fiftieth time, and until now you haven’t thought you need to be saved from anyone or anything. That you have been deaf and blind to the fact that you are an enemy of God. There is hope for you to be without blame before god!
Colossians 1:15–22 “15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: 16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: 17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. 18 And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence. 19 For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell; 20 And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven. 21 And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled 22 In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight:”
