Welcome to 2024.
What are you believing God will do this year? What is your FAITH Expectation?
a rule for the Christian life: “Never lower your expectation of God down to the level of your experience”
6 Then he said to me, “This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the Lord of hosts.
Why would anyone build a house…. Go and live in it…Move into it…. and not connect it to the power line?…
Why would anyone build a house…. Go and live in it…Move into it…. and not connect it to the power line?…
In the same way, Why would anyone build a beautiful sailing vessel with large sails, huge masts that hold those sails… and then go out to see and never hoist them up?…
In the same way…
Some people get saved… are on their way to heaven - But never experience the WIND of the SPIRIT that is intended to be the power resource for the God appointment in the season they are in.
Today we are going to anoint you with oil, and we were going to believe that the holy spirit is going to anoint you for service to God this year.
But before we do that - i am going to show you that you are just following in a long line of believers who have had just that:
Title: Anointed & Appointed
Title: Anointed & Appointed
what if i told you that there was an appointment ahead for you in 2024 that you must be at. That its your distiny that its your god given thing thats ahead.
What if we lived like that - that at the GOD appointed time. I will be used by GOD.
Thats the framework we see in the scriptures.
Thats if you like the PRESCRIBED PATH
The way of the SPIRIT:
Some PEOPLE assume that the Spirit’s activity in Scripture is limited to the New Testament. But actually He is just as active in the Old Testament.
Some PEOPLE assume that the Spirit’s activity in Scripture is limited to the New Testament. But actually He is just as active in the Old Testament.
No clearer statement of the intimate interworking of the triune God—Father, Son and Holy Spirit—and especially of the Spirit’s powerful role can be found in the Old Testament than in Isaiah’s prophecy of the Servant of the Lord (Isaiah 42:1–9). The passage summarizes the redeeming work of all three Persons of the Trinity in the salvation of the lost. Thus it ties together in remarkable harmony both the Old Testament and New Testament understandings of God’s grace. It also sheds light on our understanding of the Holy Spirit.
1. The Spirit participated in creation (Genesis 1:2; Job 26:13; Isaiah 32:15).
2. The Spirit gives life to humanity and the other creatures (Psalm 104:29, 30). It is interesting that when Genesis says God endows people with life by breathing into their nostrils the “breath of life” (Genesis 2:7), the word for “breath” is the same word translated elsewhere as “spirit.”
3. The Spirit strives with sinners (Genesis 6:3), which is perhaps related to His work in convicting people of sin (John 16:8–11).
4. The Spirit came upon certain judges, warriors, and prophets in a way that gave them extraordinary power: for example, Joshua (Numbers 27:18), Othniel (Judges 3:10), Gideon (Judges 6:34), Samson (Judges 13:25; 14:6), and Saul (1 Samuel 10:9, 10). However, the Spirit later departed from Saul because of his disobedience (1 Samuel 16:14).
5. The Spirit played a prominent role in the long span of Old Testament prophecy. David declared that “the Spirit of the Lord spoke by me, and His word was on my tongue” (2 Samuel 23:2). Likewise, Ezekiel reported that “the Spirit entered me when He spoke to me” (Ezekiel 2:2).
6. The Spirit inspired holiness in Old Testament believers (Psalm 143:10). And Scripture promised that someday God would put His Spirit in His people in a way that would cause them to live according to His statutes (Ezekiel 36:27).
7. The Spirit was crucial in helping God’s people anticipate the ministry of the Messiah. For example, Isaiah 11:1–5 is a trinitarian preview of the working of the Father, the Spirit, and the Son, who is the Branch of Jesse. Looking forward to the ministry of Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit inspired Isaiah to prophesy: “The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him” (Isaiah 11:2), inspiring God’s Chosen One with wisdom, understanding, counsel, might, knowledge, fear of the Lord, righteousness, and faithfulness. Thus we come full cycle to the New Testament, where Jesus claimed to be the fulfillment of this prophecy (Isaiah 61:1, 2; Luke 4:18, 19).
1.You have an appointment
1.You have an appointment
This isn’t a drill!
This isn’t just another year, Might seem like that to the world. 2024 is the calendar is moving over - But no.
You have an appointed position and role to fill in 2024. You are appointed by GOD - You are given this unique opportunity by GOD> its your POSITION in His kingdom and His family - its your Appointment
But just like any natural appointment, you have to show yup!
SHOW UP THIS YEAR FOF YOUR APPOINTMENT. DON’T MISS IT! DONT NOT SHOW UP!
Your appointed
Your not a mistake
He has a plan and a purpose to use you this year (in some way, and in some fashion and form)
You might be a business person
You might be a teacher
You might be a medical professional
You might be a student (returning from Passion conference)
You might be at the house homeschooling the kids
But whatever it looks like for you - the pattern remains the same - There is an appointment:
i’ve got three examples of people in your bible that had an appointment: Three ordinary people with a very extra ordinary appointment!
David - God had chosen him to be king after saul. He was destined for greatnessm honored to be king. But what was he doing? He was taking care of sheep in a field… fighting enemies from taking them… which was a natural picture of what he would be called to do spiritually for the nation of Gods people.
1 Samuel 16:11 “11 Then Samuel said to Jesse, “Are all your sons here?” And he said, “There remains yet the youngest, but behold, he is keeping the sheep.” And Samuel said to Jesse, “Send and get him, for we will not sit down till he comes here.””
and ordinary person…. doing ordinary things…appointed for an extraordinary PURPOSE
the Disciples
You talk about ordinary. Fisherman. every day regular JOE’s. Fished every day, to make a living, a wage to live each and every day - and just like david - God would use that very picture of their ordinary life to serve his extra ordinary PURPOSE - which was to become fishers of MEN.
16 Passing alongside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew the brother of Simon casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen. 17 And Jesus said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you become fishers of men.” 18 And immediately they left their nets and followed him. 19 And going on a little farther, he saw James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, who were in their boat mending the nets. 20 And immediately he called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired servants and followed him.
The ordinary… became the extraordinary…
They were appointed!
There is a calling on your life. You are appointed
2.You need the Anointing (of the Holy Spirit)
2.You need the Anointing (of the Holy Spirit)
in 2024
You need the anointing of the HOLY SPIRIT
the disciples did - and JESUS told them to wait before they could go on to their appointment (the ends of the earth)
But why?
Its the unction to function
The power for the HOUR
The wind for the VOYAGE
Its the ABILITY TO MOVE & TO ACCOMPLISH THE JOURNEY GOD HAS FOR YOU
How will you ever reach the destination if you don’t have the WIND FILLING THE SAILS OF YOUR LIFE? you’ll go nowhere!
8 The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.”
The wind comes - Its takes you where HE wants to GO - Not where YOU WANT TO GO
**this year, ae you willing to lower yourself by raising the sails of obedience…..to allow HIM to take you to the destination of HIS Choosing - to ALLOW The RUACH (SPirit WIND) to move the BOAT
When the holy spirit fills you the first time or any time after that - He does what He wants to do - If the sails are up - the WIND FILLS THEM - You may recieve a heavenly prayer language - Receive that in FAITH, Walk in it, Just like a baby doesn’t speak perfect english it takes repitition - trust God with it. Paul said “i thank God i speak in tounges more than all of you”
You may receive that language today, you may receive a word from the Lord, But here is a few things that you will GET
The Holy Spirits anointing this year will:
Give you power (wind) to be a witness & make difference in the world you live in: Acts 1:8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.””
Give you supernatural ability to overcome sin - Some of you the reason you can never overcome sin is because your just flaling around in the ocean trying to do it o your own, trying to get through, trying to figure your own way there - you need the wind! (just a thought: how will you ever know what sin is holding you back if the holy spirit didnt convict you of what it is that actually holding you back and that part of your life is at ODDS with the Lord himself?”
Give you knowledge, Help you Read the BIBLE BETTER. You will get a WORD from GOD. You will HEAR him speak to you because He has anointed you.
Give you Direction: Guide you along with a peaceful direction. Like the WIND USHERING A SAILING VESSEL IN THE DIRECTION its going - so too, the HOLY SPIRIT will guide you in an UNFORCED…. VERY NATURAL SUPERNATURAL WAY… You know there is a peacefulness to sailing -
Give you perseverance : This is how you STAY a CHRISTIAN - His supply - The anointing of the HOLY SPIRIT is a FILLING that means HE WILL Be the constant supply of OIL (resource) so that you never run out.
“How we do not burnout? we have Jesus burning inside” - Alex Hobbs
Close: Story of DL Moody.
Even though Moody had no formal ministerial training and was never ordained as a minister, his work powerfully impacted both America and England. According to one estimate, Moody brought the gospel to 100 million people, and that was before the benefits of modern technology
He lists seven vital factors he believed were the basis of Moody’s tremendously fruitful ministry. He writes that Moody:
1.Was a Fully Surrendered Man
2.Was a Man of Prayer
3.Was a Deep and Practical Student of the Bible
4.Was a Humble Man
5.Was Entirely Free from the Love of Money
6.Had a Consuming Passion for the Salvation of the Lost
7.Was Endued with Power from on High
It wasn’t until a couple of ladies who came and heard moody preach appraoched him once after his message and said to him words of the effect “we are praying for you to get power” (the wind)
and instead of shunning them he listened - a seed was planted in moody - and he prayed about this heavenly power and asked God to give it to him, and one day walking up a street in lower manhattan in New York City, God baptised him there in the street - and he was overcome in such a way he had to find a quiet room and was overcome with such Joy that he prayed and asked God to take him becuase the JOY was too much.
No but ofcourse this was the anointing… for the appointing…
As a Spirit-anointed evangelist, Moody led untold thousands to Christ. He also shared frequently about the Source of divine power who was at work in his life, enabling him to be an effective ambassador of Heaven. He was adamant that it was one thing to have the Holy Spirit inwardly, in the sense of being a child of God, but that there is a definite and subsequent experience of being filled with the power of the Spirit for service.
Through His agency we are “born again,” and through His indwelling we possess superhuman power… The Holy Spirit who inspired prophets, and qualified apostles, continues to animate, guide and comfort all true believers… I believe, and am growing more into this belief, that divine, miraculous creative power resides in the Holy Ghost.
“God is a supernatural God, and you’ve got to have supernatural power to do His work.” –D. L. Moody
