A Firm decision to do or not to do something
Only 9% of Americans, that make resolutions, complete them.
23% quit by the end of the week
43% quit by the end of January
There are 4 reasons why people quit:
Traditions - Goal are set because of traditions
Obstacles - There will always be obstacles
To Big - Set goals in smaller increments
Lack of Accountability - Tell a friend / A support group / Small group
BODY:
What if I was to challenge you to make this New Years resolution with this verse, John 14:15 ““If you love me, you will keep my commandments.”
What this comes down to is “Obedience”
God is looking for obedient!
Definition of the word “Obey”
to follow the commands or guidance of
to conform to or comply with
“Obedience”
an act or instance of obeying
Talk about the world and how its desire to not obey.
Being raised to Obey
Todays culture seems to think “Obedience” is a bad thing.
This is a lie straight from the enemy.
What do we know about the enemy.
He is a liar but he is also a thief .....
John 10:10 “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.”
How it reads in the greek: “The thief only comes to steal and kill and destroy (No period) I came that life, they may have and abundantly have it.”
Thief: (Kleptes) [NOUN] A thief by imposter
- The use of kleptō [VERB] (Lat. clepere) emphasises the secrecy, craft, and cheating involved in the act of stealing or embezzlement. (Preacher - Preaching)
- The purpose of the coming of the kleptēs (Thief) was to destroy life in furthering his own ends.
But there is 3 actions of the Thief:
The first one is Steal
Steal - Klepto
Kill - Thyse
1. to sacrifice, immolate: absol. Acts 14:13; τινί, dat. of pers. (in honor of one), Acts 14:18; τινί τι, 1 Co. 10:20. 2. to slay, kill: absol., Acts 10:13; 11:7; τί, Lk. 15:23, 27, 30; pass. Mt. 22:4; τὸ πάσχα, the paschal lamb, Mk. 14:12; pass., Lk. 22:7; 1 Co. 5:7, (Deut. 16:2, 6). 3. to slaughter: absol. Jn. 10:10 To Slay or Kill (Same word used for the slaying of Christ as our sacrifice )
Destroy - APOLESE
The idea is not extinction but ruin, loss, not of being, but of wellbeing.
This word means a definitive destruction, not merely in the sense of the extinction of physical existence, but rather of an eternal plunge into Hades and a hopeless destiny of death”
The thief does this in increments and not all at once.
Steals in increments
Kills slowly
Destroys in the end.
Jesus had come to give life, even at the expense of his own, and abundant life at that
Abundantly - (Perissos)
: Over and above, more than necessary
: An exceeding measure, something above the ordinary
: In a manner marked by great quantity
