Week 1: A Lack of Engagement With Scripture

2 Timothy 3:14–17 NASB 2020
You, however, continue in the things you have learned and become convinced of, knowing from whom you have learned them, and that from childhood you have known the sacred writings which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is inspired by God and beneficial for teaching, for rebuke, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man or woman of God may be fully capable, equipped for every good work.

Intro

One of the greatest challenges the American church is facing to day is a crisis of Biblical illiteracy. It isn’t that Christians can’t read, but it is that most do not read the Bible in any meaningful way outside of church gatherings. If we don’t know the Word, we will be easily blown to and fro by every wind of doctrine that is out there. Much of what is being taught by tv preachers, YouTube preachers, and book writing preachers is off base. We must have our tethers tied directly to the Word of God and for that to happen, we must be in the Word of God.

Truth

I. The Scriptures are sacred writings because they are from God Himself (15-16)
II. The Scriptures keep us connected to the truth we have already become convinced of (14)
III. The Scriptures give us wisdom that leads to our salvation (15)
IV. The Scriptures equip us to live out our faith (16-17)
