Jesus Will Fix It!

Isaiah 53:5 KJV 1900

But he was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities: The chastisement of our peace was upon him; And with his stripes we are healed.

Introduction:

The world is undeniably broken and in need of repair or fixing. 

God describes the broken state of humanity in Chapter 1…

• Socially 

○ Empathy, Humanity, Race

• Politically

○ Corruption, Greed

• Spiritually 

○ Faith, Family, Identity

Even though we live in a world of broken things, we serve a God who specializes in fixing!

• When the earth was without form and void, He fixed it.

• When the earth was covered with water after the flood, He fixed it.

In our text, God is addressing the broken state of humanity, and provides a means by which whatever is broken in our lives, there is a fix, but it comes at the expense of the suffering Jesus Christ!

Outline:

1. Broken Actions - v. 5a

a. Transgression = pesa; from pasa which means to break away, rebel, and revolt.

b. Rom 12:2 - “Be not conformed to this world... but be ye transformed.

2. Broken Affections - v. 5b

a. Iniquities = aon/avown; Moral depravity, perversity.

b. Pro 14:12 - “There is a way which seemeth right... end thereof are the ways of death.”

c. Jn 3:19 - “men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds are evil”

3. Broken Awareness - v. 5c

a. Peace = shalom; which means inner well-being and rest. It is mentioned here to highlight the opposite condition internal chaos.

b. Isa 26:3 - “Thou will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee...”

4. Blessed Answer - v. 5d

a. Healed = raphah; which means to mend, to stitch together, to cure, and to make whole.

b. Psa 107:20 - “He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions”
