Solomon And The Proverbs...
Solomon And The Proverbs...
Solomon was Israel’s 3rd King. He is responsible for writing many of the Proverbs. A Proverb is a short saying, question, or comparison that expresses human behavior from Gods perspective. God gave us these Proverbs to instruct us how to live in a way that pleases Him. They will help us to live a happy and successful life. The purpose of these Proverbs is to help us to avoid the tragedies and regrets that sin produces.
When you go bowling, there are times when you can’t keep the ball out of that gutter to save your life. This is where those handy dandy bumpers come in. Those bumpers are there to ensure that the ball reaches it’s intended target…You might say that we are that bowling ball, the lane is life, and the Proverbs are the bumpers to help us get to our target. They’re there to keep you out of the gutter, which in this case represents sin.
The proverbs of Solomon, the son of David, king of Israel:
To know wisdom and instruction,
to perceive the words of understanding,
to receive the instruction of wisdom,
justice, judgment, and equity;
to give subtlety to the simple,
to the young man knowledge and discretion—
a wise man will hear and will increase learning,
and a man of understanding will attain wise counsel,
to understand a proverb and the interpretation,
the words of the wise and their riddles.
God Is Not A Killjoy, He Loves You...
God Is Not A Killjoy, He Loves You...
Believe it or not the Proverbs are Gods way of trying to save us from a lot of heartache. He loves us and desires us to live our best life. It’s up to us to put this knowledge to work in our lives. It’s ultimately up to us to use the bumpers He’s provided to us. It’s available to us all...
My brothers, count it all joy when you fall into diverse temptations, knowing that the trying of your faith develops patience. But let patience perfect its work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all men liberally and without criticism, and it will be given to him.
James is clear that we are going to have temptations and trials. No doubt, some of those may be sent your way to destroy you, but James tells us to be patient and let it work out for our good. You see, he said to ask God for wisdom, and He will give wisdom for every one of those temptations and trials.
A wise man will live and think according to Gods truth, His purposes, and design. A wise man will receive Gods wisdom and put it to work in his life. A wise man believes the truth of Gods word to be the only standard we should live by.
Godly wisdom comes from a deep abiding relationship with God.
If you remain in Me, and My words remain in you, you will ask whatever you desire, and it shall be done for you.
Jesus is The Wisdom Of God...
Jesus is The Wisdom Of God...
Jesus is the wisdom of God! Jesus is the manifest wisdom of God and He lives in us!!
I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Counselor, that He may be with you forever: the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, for it does not see Him, neither does it know Him. But you know Him, for He lives with you, and will be in you. I will not leave you fatherless. I will come to you. Yet a little while and the world will see Me no more. But you will see Me. Because I live, you will live also. On that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you are in Me, and I am in you. He who has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father. And I will love him and will reveal Myself to him.”
Then Judas (not Iscariot) said to Him, “Lord, how is it that You will reveal Yourself to us, but not to the world?”
Jesus answered him, “If a man loves Me, he will keep My word. My Father will love him, and We will come to him, and make Our home with him. He who does not love Me does not keep My words. The word which you hear is not Mine, but the Father’s who sent Me.
“I have spoken these things to you while I am still with you. But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, will teach you everything and remind you of all that I told you.
Jesus said that we love Him if we keep His commandments. If we love Him…we’ll be wise and obey His Word!
The Fear Of The Lord Is The Beginning Of Knowledge...
The Fear Of The Lord Is The Beginning Of Knowledge...
The fear of the Lord isn’t sitting around waiting for Him hit you with lightning. What it is, is a life lived out in reverence of Gods power, majesty, authority and His holiness. This fear of the Lord will produce in us the wisdom needed to avoid sinful things that will destroy us
God gives us wisdom because He loves us and wants to save us. We would be foolish to ignore His wisdom found in this book.
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge,
but fools despise wisdom and instruction.
Solomon’s story is 2 sided. As a young man he asked for wisdom and God granted it. Solomon is the wisest man to have ever lived according to scripture. He was blessed for it. However, He eventually began to ignore Gods wisdom and suffered for it. His story is proof that we can have all kinds of wisdom, but if we don’t put it into action it’s useless.
