The Question:

What are behaviors, allegiances, or identity markers that set us aside as disciples? What sets the Church apart?

Purpose: We need to be reminded of who we are expected to be in Christ, amid conflicting and confused conceptions, particularly those imposed on us by those who leverage Christian faith for their own ends rather that the Kingdom of God.

Theme Scriptures:

The following scriptures provide broad structure for this study. These (and other passages) remind us that saving faith is a matter of both

right belief

and

right action.

Romans 12:1–2 ESV
1 I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. 2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
Philippians 3:20–21 ESV
20 But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, 21 who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself.

Biblical belief without Biblical action can lead to antinomianism or gnosticism.

Biblical action without Biblical belief can lead to legalism.
