John 5:10–16 RSV
So the Jews said to the man who was cured, “It is the sabbath, it is not lawful for you to carry your pallet.” But he answered them, “The man who healed me said to me, ‘Take up your pallet, and walk.’ ” They asked him, “Who is the man who said to you, ‘Take up your pallet, and walk’?” Now the man who had been healed did not know who it was, for Jesus had withdrawn, as there was a crowd in the place. Afterward, Jesus found him in the temple, and said to him, “See, you are well! Sin no more, that nothing worse befall you.” The man went away and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had healed him. And this was why the Jews persecuted Jesus, because he did this on the sabbath.
Is it ever right to shift the blame? This man said, "The man who healed me told me to take up my bed and walk. The Jews wanted to use the Law to "keep people in line" while Jesus wanted people to be healed. I notice that Jesus is always concerned about our sin as well our physical well being. Vers 14 Jesus said, "sin no more that nothing worse befall you" Sin is worse than any body hurt/desiese/ or pain.
The man learned who Jesus was and when he told the Jews they persecuted Him.
God helps us if we are more concerned about our "laws" than about our sin. That will kill you.
They were more angry that Jesus called God Father than that He healed a man on the Sabbath. This reveals just how misguided these folks were. God help us to be guided by the truth concerning Jesus than by our preconceived theologies and laws.
