Last Fall, I traveled to TGC 23 conference in Indianapolis. While I was there, I attended a mircroevent titled, The Church Runs on Prayer by Paul Miler. His point was the the Spirit of God indwells in the hearts of believers and prayer is the locomotion to every ministry.
Where’s our power to change the world? The power is found in speaking to God.
But what shall we pray?
Christ taught us what is necessary to pray for during the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 6:9-13).
I. Jesus’ prayer begins with God and ends with us.
We pray for God’s name to be holy through our conduct and faith.
We pray for the church to focused on establishing Christ’s kingdom.
We pray for the Lord to sustain and revive us again.
We pray for sins to be forgiven.
We pray for God to rescue us from all evil.
II. Jesus’ prayer centers on our lives to what is necessary (i.e, holiness, discipleship, provision, salvation, and deliverance).
III. Jesus’ prayer invites the power of God to change our ourselves and our world.
Jesus’ prayer is the model of prayer given as a gift to his church. We should neglect it, rather embrace it as we do with anything regarding our spiritual faith.
Imagine if God’s people took his words to heart. We would be Christ-centered and mission-focused. This is the prayer I want to to live by daily. It is now YOUR prayer.
