Verse 11. A promise of peace, of not one of destruction, Jerusalem will be safe, the wall of fire. The great promise. – Great motivation. For obedience.
Verse 12. The enemies will rot, as the Lord sticks the people that come against Jerusalem, eyes, tongues, and flesh. (God fights).
Verse 13 The Lord will send panic on the enemies and they shall, fight one another, (OT story)
Verse 14 Juda will also fight, and the nation’s wealth will be collected, like the exodus?
Verse 15 A plague will fall on the animals,
Verse 16. The survivors will go up every year to worship the king (of all the earth) The Lord of hosts the title used a lot in Zechariah), in Jerusalem. And keep the feast of booth? (That does not seem to make sense). Levit 23:39-43 a reminder of the exodus? 15. day 7 month, after harvest, celebrate: Called the feast of the LORD, 1. and 8. day rest to God, 1 day, rejoice before God 7 days, because of the harvest of fruit, dwell in booth for 7 days. – that people will know that God brought His people out of Egypt – Now out of the north for exile. (All people in exile in darkness and sin). (Not fasting but joy and blessing of the lord of the harvest).
Verses 17 no rain for the people that does not come worship the king. Verse 18 If the family in Egypt does not come worship, a plague will come. Verse 19 that will be the punishment Egypt and the nations that does not keep the feast of Booth.? (No worship of the Lord of hosts).
Verses 20. Holy to the Lord, a cleansing and all made Holy set apart to God, - even things animals and people that was unholy before. (That is what Jesus does – the lepper/unholy did not make Jesus unclean he cleaned them).
Verses 21 No longer, people buying and selling in the house of Lord of hosts. (Jesus cleansed it). The Place will be holy for God and not people seeking profit. (No enemy in the house of God).
The whole book - In a crisis, The Lord of Hosts comes near.
A call to Repent turn to God, (like Jesus words, repent the kingdom of God has come near) - not only to the Land but to God. (True repentance).
Visions of a better future, cleansing of the priesthood, Leadership/king, Judgment of Gods peoples enemies, Judgment on Gods people, The Lord of hosts provides, the nation’s becoming Gods people – gentiles, a humble king on a donkey, a shepherd struck, (God striking God), and God becoming King of all the earth, as God the warrior fights for his people. And people, animals, things, will be made Holy to the Lord.
The NT writes saw Jesus as the Shepard, the humble king on a donkey, the one struck, rejected, killed by the people. But also the one that cleansed the temple, healed the sick, the unclean/unholy, cast out demons, the one that could make people Holy/cleanse, by his life, death, resurrection, and the hope of his return, as warrior king, the one that prays/intercede for us, the Messiha, = almighty God,
Then what is the book to us? Reminder of all the same things: repentance from sin to God, obedience, joy in God, that provides as God makes a way for us, in Jesus, hope, that Jesus will be king of all the earth, and God will make all right in his sight.
God is extremely kind, patient, slow to anger, provider of salvation, humble, willing to suffer, and a warrior,
But rejecting God, and his Messiah Jesus, will – be fatale – and lead to judgment.
What does that mean to you?
I hope and pray you have got a bigger, better, joy filled picture of who God is, that you have and will experience, more of who God is, as you read Zechariah, hope in God as king, - Jesus as lord of all psalm 2. That you are motivate to read all the books in your bible praying that God will open your eyes by his Holy Spirt to understand more who Jesus is, how and who God is. That you might worship and enjoy Jesus more by the Holy Spirt, and it might encourage us to live as lights and salt in the world telling people about the king of the earth the King og kings the Lord of Lords,
Joy to share and call people to Jesus, the hope of all the world.
