1 Peter 1:22-25
1 Peter 1:22-25
Since you have in obedience to the truth purified your souls for a sincere love of the brethren, fervently love one another from the heart,
for you have been born again not of seed which is perishable but imperishable, that is, through the living and enduring word of God.
For, “All flesh is like grass, And all its glory like the flower of grass. The grass withers, And the flower falls off,
But the word of the Lord endures forever.” And this is the word which was preached to you.
Purity of soul comes about only by trust in Christ and what He has done for us on the Cross.
We “obey the Truth” by exhibiting simple faith in Christ and His Cross.
The Cross is the central theme of the Bible.
All of this is a work of the Spirit, which is brought about by our obedience to the truth.
If our faith is in Christ and His Cross, we will have an undiluted love for the brothers and sisters in Christ and the lost.
If we don’t have a love for or brothers and sisters with a pure heart, then we simply aren’t obeying the Truth.
The purifying of the soul of man can only be purified by faith in what Christ did at the Cross, in the shedding of His blood, which paid the sin debt.
remember that you were at that time separate from Christ, excluded from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world.
But now in Christ Jesus you who formerly were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.
For He Himself is our peace, who made both groups into one and broke down the barrier of the dividing wall,
by abolishing in His flesh the enmity, which is the Law of commandments contained in ordinances, so that in Himself He might make the two into one new man, thus establishing peace,
and might reconcile them both in one body to God through the cross, by it having put to death the enmity.
And He came and preached peace to you who were far away, and peace to those who were near;
for through Him we both have our access in one Spirit to the Father.
“Purified” in the Greek is “Hagnizo” and means, “to be made clean.”
Without Christ we are unclean.
Our soul is polluted.
Forever, O Lord, Your word is settled in heaven.
Our obedience to the moral law should be our response to God.
You are near, O Lord, And all Your commandments are truth.
The Truth can be summed up in 4 ways.
Jesus Christ is the truth. John 14:6
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.
2. The Word of God is truth. John 17:17
“Sanctify them in the truth; Your word is truth.
3. The Spirit of God is Truth 1 John 5:6
This is the One who came by water and blood, Jesus Christ; not with the water only, but with the water and with the blood. It is the Spirit who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth.
4. The anointing is truth. 1 John 2:27
As for you, the anointing which you received from Him abides in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you; but as His anointing teaches you about all things, and is true and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you abide in Him.
Until one makes Christ Lord and Savior of our lives, we cannot understand the Word of God, can’t hear the voice of the Spirit, and can’t know truth.
The phrase, “through the Spirit,” refers to the fact that the Holy Spirit is working in every part of salvation, and anything that we receive from God.
The Father proclaims
The Son devises
The Spirit fulfills
The Spirit of the Lord generates the positive Word within the heart and life of the preacher and then anoints him to deliver the Word.
The Spirit then convicts the heart of the hearing sinner, making him see the need for the Savior.
Then you will become born again.
Born again means born from above and totally of God.
As He spoke these things, many came to believe in Him.
So Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, “If you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine;
and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.”
Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.
For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death.
If we truly want to be kept we must meditate on God’s Word.
Our flesh or even the Holy Spirit alone will not stand against the devil.
When we hear and obey, we find out how much we truly are loved.
The Word brings us hope.
For whatever was written in earlier times was written for our instruction, so that through perseverance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.
The Word of God gives us purpose.
It is when we know God’s Word, that He will then give us vision for our lives.
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.
We know we have the living hope when we get to know God’s Word and it is hid in our hearts.
“My sheep hear My voice.”
We cultivate this accuracy on knowing God’s Word.
Jesus answered them, “I told you, and you do not believe; the works that I do in My Father’s name, these testify of Me.
“But you do not believe because you are not of My sheep.
“My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me;
and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand.
Refuge--”a shelter, a rock”
Stronghold--”a high tower, a fortress”
God is a dependable refuge for His people when everything around you seems to be falling apart.
He doesn’t protect us to pamper us.
He shelters us so He can strengthen us to go back to life with its duties and dangers.
We are called to be His representatives.
He cannot work for us unless we trust Him.
And He did not do many miracles there because of their unbelief.
The word “trouble” describes people in tight places, in a corner and unable to get out and when this happens, don’t be afraid.
Like double teaming in basketball or a boxer in a corner.
Now on the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink.
“He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, ‘From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.’ ”
But this He spoke of the Spirit, whom those who believed in Him were to receive; for the Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.
God provides us with the water of life.
