1. When Israel didn’t meet the conditions for remaining in the land,
God removed her in two stages:
Israel in 722 BC (Assyrians) and Judah in 586 BC (Babylonians)
2. But God brought Judah and Benjamin back because His purposes to bless the nations through her weren’t yet complete. Second Temple
3. The regathered Jewish people would
give birth to the Savior,
complete the Scriptures for the world,
found the Church, and
send out the Gospel to the nations!
4. But, because her leaders rejected the Messiah, & led the people to reject Him too,
Jesus prophesied that she would again go into exile.
5. In 70 AD the Romans destroyed Jerusalem and the temple, and scattered the peoples to the nations
Israel as a nation was gone!
6. For 1900 years Israel was in exile,
7. But in 1948 the nation of Israel was supernaturally reborn!
Why?
8. Israel’s purpose in the land isn’t complete.
God still intends to save both Israel and the nations.
It will happen at the end of this age
9. Here’s how it will happen?
A. Israel will be attacked and defeated
TIMELINE
First: the rise of a world ruler (antichrist)
1. Daniel received a vision of four historical world empires.
2. Daniel 7:2–3 (NIV) In my vision at night I looked, and there before me were the four winds of heaven churning up the great sea. 3 Four great beasts, each different from the others, came up out of the sea.
3. An angel explained the meaning of the vision for Daniel …
4. Daniel 7:17 (NIV) The four great beasts are four kings that will rise from the earth.
5. These empires rose up from the Mediterranean region.
The first 3 ruled Israel in the past.
Babylon , Medeo Persia, Greeks, Rome (revived roman empire)
The 4th will invade Israel in the future.
6. This last empire will be the last human empire.
It will be the most ruthless and terrifying of any that preceded it.
7. Daniel 7:7 (NIV) … before me was a fourth beast—terrifying and frightening and very powerful. It had large iron teeth; it crushed and devoured its victims and trampled underfoot whatever was left. It was different from all the former beasts, and it had ten horns.
8. An angel explained the meaning of this beast.
9. Daniel 7:23–24 (NIV) The fourth beast is a fourth kingdom that will appear on earth. It will be different from all the other kingdoms and will devour the whole earth, trampling it down and crushing it. 24 The ten horns are ten kings who will come from this kingdom.
10. This empire is a coalition of 10 “horns” or leaders of nations.
11. And this alliance of 10 nations will be led by a leader who Daniel referred to as the “little horn.”
12. Daniel 7:8 (NIV) While I was thinking about the horns, there before me was another horn, a little one, which came up among them; and three of the first horns were uprooted before it.
13. John speaks of this very thing in Revelation …
14. Revelation 17:12–13 (NIV) The ten horns you saw are ten kingswho have not yet received a kingdom, but who for one hour will receive authority as kings along with the beast. 13They have one purpose and will give their power and authority to the beast.
15. This 10-member confederacy is made up of nations that surround Israel.
Slide
16. Zechariah 12:2 (BSB) Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of drunkenness to all the SURROUNDING peoples (nations). Judah will be besieged, as well as Jerusalem. (cf. Zech 12:6; 14:14; Joel 2:9-12)
TIMELINE
Second: covenant or peace accord
1. This ruler will make a 7-year covenant or peace treaty with Israel
2. Daniel 9:27 (NIV) He (antichrist) will confirm a covenant with many for one ‘seven.’ In the middle of the ‘seven’ he will put an end to sacrifice and offering. And at the temple he will set up an abomination that causes desolation.
3. The peace accord or covenant is for:
one set of seven years and marks the start of the Tribulation and early birth pains.
Summary so far:
Israel is surrounded by hostile nations about to destroy it…but a peace accord is provided.
4. According to Daniel this peace accord will allow the Jewish people to have a temple (tent?) on the temple mount and to offer sacrifices there.
5. What would happen if the orthodox Jews erected a temple on the temple mount today, where the dome of the rock sits? WWIII!
SLIDE
6. Two conditions:
Orthodox Jews have to have balance of power in gov’t;
The antichrist has to convince the surrounding nations to allow it.
Third: abomination of desolation and tribulation
1. Daniel says that midway through this peace treaty, this ruler will break his promise,
Ending sacrifice and committing sacrilege at the temple.
2. Daniel 9:27b (NIV) In the middle of the ‘seven’ ( years) he will put an end to sacrifice and offering. And at the temple he will set up an abomination that causes desolation. (cf. Dan 8:13; 11:31; 12:11; Mt 24:15)
3. He is satanically inspired because he proclaims himself as God.
4. 2 Thessalonians 2:4 (NIV) He (lawless one; antichrist) will oppose and will exalt himself over everything that is called God or is worshiped, so that he sets himself up in God’s temple, proclaiming himself to be God.
5. The peace accord which antichrist and the surrounding nations make with Israel, will be made under false pretenses. ( Like Hitler did)
6. Antichrist will convince the coalition to make this peace treaty;
Break it when Israel becomes complacent, and then attack and destroy Israel!
7. John, in agreement with Daniel, said that he will blaspheme God and exercise authority over the nations for 42 months (3 ½ years).
8. Revelation 13:5,7-8 (NIV) The beast was given a mouth to utter proud words and blasphemies and to exercise its authority for forty-two months…7And it was given authority over every tribe, people, language and nation. 8All inhabitants of the earth will worship the beast.
9. Once this man is exposed as the antichrist, his wrath in the Tribulation will greatly intensify! Jesus referred to this as the great tribulation!
10. Matthew 24:21 (ESV) For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been from the beginning of the world until now, no, and never will be.
Fourth: coalition of 10 nations will defeat Israel
1. When the antichrist breaks the peace accord,
his alliance of 10 nations will immediately invade Israel.
2. Ezekiel 38:7–11 (NIV) In future years you (Gog or antichrist) will invade a land that has recovered from war, whose people were gathered from many nations to the mountains of Israel, which had long been desolate ... and now all of them live in safety. 9You and … the many nations with you will go up, advancing like a storm 10 … you will devise an evil scheme. 11You will say, “I will invade a land of unwalled villages; I will attack a peaceful and unsuspecting people—all of them living without walls and without gates and bars.
3. Zechariah says that Israel will be decimated!
4. Zechariah 13:8 (NIV) In the whole land,” declares the Lord, “two-thirds will be struck down and perish; yet one-third will be left in it.
None were left after AD70- This is a prophecy about after that.
5. We know this prophecy refers to the future, because:
Zechariah prophesied it from Jerusalem AFTER the return from Babylonian exile!
6. Zechariah 14:2 (NIV) I will gather all the nations to Jerusalem to fight against it; the city will be captured, the houses ransacked, and the women raped. Half of the city will go into exile, but the rest of the people will not be taken from the city. (Ezk 39:25-28)
7. Half of the population of Jerusalem will go into exile!
This will last 3 ½ years.
8. Daniel 7:25 (NIV) The holy people will be delivered into his (“little horn”) hands for a time, times and half a time.
9. In Revelation, John interprets that as 42 months, which is 3 ½ yrs.
10. Revelation 11:2 (NIV) They (Gentiles) will trample on the holy city for 42 months. (cf. Rev 12:6, 14; 13:5)
11. Think about it:
Neither the EU nor the USA will protect or deliver Israel!
12. World-wide antisemitism is rapidly gaining strength again.
France story of businesses having Jewish star of David sprayed on their buildings
15. Why do the nations hate Israel so?!
Because Satan incites them with his own hatred and rage.
16. Revelation 12:12–13 (NIV) Woe to the earth and the sea, because the devil has gone down to you! He is filled with fury, because he knows that his time is short.” 13When the dragon saw that he had been hurled to the earth, he pursued the woman who had given birth to the male child.
17. Who is the woman who gave birth to the male child? Israel! Why?
a. Because God’s blessings to the nations come through Israel
b. Because Messiah will establish His Kingdom on earth in Israel
18. For this reason, Satan rages against the Jews and Israel, trying to stop all this from happening!
A. Israel will be rescued and saved
First: Messiah will defeat the nations and rescue Israel
1. After the 3 ½ year occupation and exile,
Jesus will come and fight on Israel’s behalf
2. Zechariah 14:3-4 (ESV) Then the LORD will go out and fight against those nations as when he fights on a day of battle. 4 On that day his feet shall stand on the Mount of Olives that lies before Jerusalem on the east.
3. Notice that Messiah will personally engage in battle. He will be present!
4. MAP – route Messiah will take to deliver Israel

5. Isaiah 63:1-3 (NIV) Who is this coming from Edom, from Bozrah, with his garments stained crimson? Who is this, robed in splendor, striding forward in the greatness of his strength? "It is I, speaking in righteousness, mighty to save." 2 Why are your garments red, like those of one treading the winepress? 3 "I have trodden the winepress alone; from the nations no one was with me. I trampled them (nations) in my anger and trod them down in my wrath; their blood spattered my garments, and I stained all my clothing.
6. Israel will spend seven months burying the dead of their enemies.
7. Ezekiel 39:12 (BSB) For seven months the house of Israel will be burying them in order to cleanse the land.
8. The deliverance of Israel will mark the end of the Tribulation!
Second: all Israel will be saved
1. Zechariah speaks about what God is doing with the one-third of Jewish survivors during that 3 ½ period.
2. Zechariah 13:9 (NIV) This third I will put into the fire; I will refine them like silver and test them like gold.
3. Jeremiah says it is a time of discipline that will bring them back to God
4. Jeremiah 31:18 (NIV) I have surely heard Ephraim's moaning: ' You disciplined me like an unruly calf, and I have been disciplined. Restore me, and I will return, because you are the LORD my God.’
5. Zechariah describes the scene when Israel sees Messiah deliver them!
6. Zechariah 12:10 (BSB) I will pour out on the house of David and on the people of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and prayer, and they will look on Me, the One they have pierced. They will mourn for Him as one mourns for an only child and grieve bitterly for Him ….
7. In 1948 they returned in unbelief, which continues to this day.
(20,000 believers in Israel from 9 million)
8. But when the Messiah reappears they will recognize that the Lord’s discipline of them was justified, and they will mourn and repent of their obstinate unbelief and rebellion.
10. And the Lord will remove their sins
11. Zechariah 13:1 (ESV) On that day there shall be a fountain opened for the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, to cleanse them from sin and uncleanness.
12. In the New Covenant Jeremiah says that ALL Israel will know God …
13. Jeremiah 31:34 (NIV) No longer will a man teach his neighbor, or a man his brother, saying, 'Know the LORD,' because they will ALL know me ….
14. And Ezekiel says they will know the Lord from that day forward!
15. Ezekiel 39:22 (BSB) From that day forward the house of Israel will know that I am the LORD their God.
Third: Jews will return from the four corners of the world
1. And they will return from the ends of the earth!
2. Jeremiah 31:8-10 (NIV) See, I will … gather them from the ends of the earth … a great throng will return. 9 They will come with weeping ….
3. The deliverance and return will be greater than the Exodus from Egypt!
4. Jeremiah 23:7-8 (NIV) “…the days are coming,” declares the LORD, “when people will no longer say, ‘As surely as the LORD lives, who brought the Israelites up out of Egypt,’ 8 but they will say, ‘As surely as the LORD lives, who brought the descendants of Israel up out of the land of the north and out of ALL the countries where he had banished them.’ Then they will live in their own land.”(cf. Jer 16:14-15)
5. Israel will be planted in the land, never to be dispersed again!
6. Amos 9:15 (NIV) “I will plant Israel in their own land, never again to be uprooted from the land I have given them," says the LORD your God.
7. And she will never again be surrounded by hateful neighbors!
8. Ezekiel 28:24 (NIV) No longer will the people of Israel have malicious neighbors who are painful briers and sharp thorns.
