Colossians 1:9–10 NKJV
9 For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; 10 that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God;

Sermon Text:

1 Corinthians 15:33 NKJV
33 Do not be deceived: “Evil company corrupts good habits.”
Introduction:
Last week:
We are called to continued Growth in Christ.
We talked a long time about true meaning of the word blessing. (here is a clue it is not at all limited to money.
We are Blessed to be a blessing.
The first step is nutrition.
What are you feeding your mind and spirit?
We encouraged you to be in prayer and Bible reading daily.

1. What influences you matters.

Proverbs 13:20 NKJV
20 He who walks with wise men will be wise, But the companion of fools will be destroyed.
Who you hang out with will determine your wisdom levels.
Who you hang out with will effect how you thing and what you think.
What I think about will determine my appetite.
My appetites determine my actions.

2. Who you associate with will determine your values.

Psalm 1:1 NKJV
1 Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful;

Do not walk in the counsel of the ungodly.

1 a: advice given especially as a result of consultation

Proverbs 4:14–17 (NKJV)
14 Do not enter the path of the wicked, And do not walk in the way of evil. 15 Avoid it, do not travel on it; Turn away from it and pass on. 16 For they do not sleep unless they have done evil; And their sleep is taken away unless they make someone fall. 17 For they eat the bread of wickedness, And drink the wine of violence.

The Scriptures teach us that the counsel leads to action.

They do not sleep until they do evil.
they make people fall.
they eat the bread of wickedness and drink the wine of violence.
Proverbs 11:1 NKJV
1 Dishonest scales are an abomination to the Lord, But a just weight is His delight.
Proverbs 22:1 NKJV
1 A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches, Loving favor rather than silver and gold.

What is the path of the just like?

Proverbs 4:18–19 NKJV
18 But the path of the just is like the shining sun, That shines ever brighter unto the perfect day. 19 The way of the wicked is like darkness; They do not know what makes them stumble.

3. Be selective about your friends.

Proverbs 12:26 NKJV
26 The righteous should choose his friends carefully, For the way of the wicked leads them astray.
your friends can lead you away from the Lord.

Do the people in your life challenge your? Or, do they simply co-sign on your crazy?

Proverbs 27:17 NKJV
17 As iron sharpens iron, So a man sharpens the countenance of his friend.
a true friend believes in the calling of God on your life.
this may hurt your feelings from time to time but if you get coddled all the time you wont develop courage.
I am not talking about just running someones inventory than trying to pass it off as “Sharpening Iron.”
Proverbs 27:6 NKJV
6 Faithful are the wounds of a friend, But the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.
Proverbs 27:6 ESV
6 Faithful are the wounds of a friend; profuse are the kisses of an enemy.
Proverbs 27:6 NAB
6 Wounds from a friend may be accepted as well meant, but the greetings of an enemy one prays against.
Proverbs 27:6 NRSV
6 Well meant are the wounds a friend inflicts, but profuse are the kisses of an enemy.
Proverbs 27:6 NLT
6 Wounds from a sincere friend are better than many kisses from an enemy.
I am talking about helping one another. Being an encouragement to one another.

3. You need real christian brothers & sisters.

First when I say “real” Christian i mean a Christian who wants to be engaged in Christian growth themselves.
Proverbs 18:24 NKJV
24 A man who has friends must himself be friendly, But there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.
Proverbs 17:17 NKJV
17 A friend loves at all times, And a brother is born for adversity.
